When you go into the stores, remember to try on the foundation at your jawline. If it blends in, it's your shade. It'll be good for you to step out into the sun to check too, because some foundations look different in artificial light vs natural light. (:
If you've just started, remember to take your skin type into consideration ie oily/dry/sensitive skin. Some products are manufactured for different types of skin so be sure to check reviews online first.
Still, everyone reacts differently to different items, so there will still be an element of trial and error when it comes to finding your favourite products. (:
If you've just started, you could try getting the few fundamentals: Concealer, foundation/bb cream, blusher, tinted lip balm. All to just even out your skin tone and give a nice touch of colour. After that you can slowly move on to more complicated parts like your eyeliner, eye shadow etc.
Oh, and invest in a make-up remover that's suitable for your skin too! This is the most important part.
(: I hope this helped.

When I first started using makeup, I didn't start with foundation. I used concealer at first and then worked my way up to tinted moisturizers and BB creams...then I moved on to foundation. I wouldn't go straight into it, because it may come as a shock to you

Maybe try starting with a BB cream. It's light coverage but it still evens out skintone. Depending on what type of coverage you want or need can determine what foundation you get. And when color matching ALWAYS match it to your chest. Because your neck and face can sometimes be lighter or darker than you chest and if you match your foundation to your neck or jawline then it might look like you're wearing a mask. Match to your chest so that way everything is all one color and remember to blend the foundation down your neck. A good beginner foundation is Neutragena healthy skin for medium coverage and MAC studio fix fluid is a good full coverage and everyday foundation! Good luck!

I recommend starting with a tinted moisturizer its lighter than foundation and a good starting place then maybe a little blush, mascara and a sheer gloss or tinted lip balm (try burts bees) but if you really want to try foundation, I recommend going to Sephora and getting some free samples first. they should be able to match your shade in the store. you want you face to match your neck and chest for the most natural look. try a sheer formula to start
