Correct foundation color?!

So I'm not quite sure what it is. But whenever I have foundation on I feel like my face looks ashy. I've been color matched at MAC two separate times. The first time I was told NC44. The second I was told NC42 So I have both now. -_- I use the MAC mineralized powder in Medium. At bare minerals I was told I'm golden medium so I have that as well which I use my mineral veil with. I focus more on eyeshadow. So I'm not very great at the whole face thing. I'm beyond confused at this point. Is it the types of foundation I'm using? The powders? & also, I've seen a few girls on here say they are NC45 or 44. And their foundation looks great however they are a completely different skin tone than me. Like way darker. Any suggestions?

Match it to your wrist or neck, never ask the workers for help because they can never color match right. Also finding your undertone will help. For me the always pick the foundation way to dark, even though sometimes the lightest shade is sometimes too dark for me.

^ foundation should not be matched to your wrist, but to your neck/chest.

Sometimes your wrist can be a different color than your face. It's better to try it on your face to be safe. Just remove a little makeup off around your jawline and try matching the foundation there. They should have pads to remove makeup.

Like Maxine said match it to your neck and chest you want them and your face to be all the same shade. try getting a few samples of different shades and play around w them at home and check the color in natural light. the lighting they have in the stores are awful and you can never tell if it matches there

@danny you're definitely right about the lighting. At bare minerals the first color she put on me I looked at it outside at I looked like I was pink!

I believe it monique! make sure they are matching you with the correct undertone Mac is using nc on you so they are saying you have warm undertones. if you have that part right you've already one half the battle. then its just finding the right one

I'm the same I can't find the right shade I've tried over 15 different foundations and nothing ever matches! my chin is darker than the rest of my face so I can't find anything that matches my chin!! its so annoying and mac workers are stupid they gave me a really orange coloured concealer for my chin it was gross! I've just bought vichy dermablend stick in sand sable and thats made my face look ashy :( another waste of my money! hate my skin so much! I wish there was a tool to just create the perfect matching colour to our skin!!

Yeah,match your foundation to your chest,not your neck/wrist.and like Ben said,get as many samples as you can :)

Go to findation.com. Ideally have 2 foundation that you know match and plug that info. in and it will give you your shade in 98% of the brands out there. If you only have one foundation that you know matches then use that...I know how much of a pain it can be and this has worked for me.

Please let me know what you find out. Mac says every woc is nc44-45. Lol! I have been matched to nc45 and see ppl who are nowhere my skin tone who say they are nc45 as well. I'm still looking for the perfect foundation so I will be watching to see what you are able to find out!

I learned from a Bobbi Brown MUA. Who then directed me to other lines with colors that would be a match for me as well. She swatched along my jaw line on both sides of my face, gave me a bunch of samples and sent me on my way. With MAC its kinda a hit and miss so I'd tread carefully with them.

The least complicated way I have seen to figure out a match was from Urban Decay. Pick 3 foundations that you think would match and then swatch them near your jaw and the shade that "diasppears" is the best match. I saw it on their YouTube video for their naked skin foundation and it seems like a pretty simple way to get a match.

@Tonita yeah I'm not sure what they're thinking! Lol. (If you look through this thread) I am probably VERY slightly darker than Cassandra. Idk what MAC was thinking.
