So I got my toe nail chopped off.
It was horrible and painful and winter is by far not the right time to have an infected injury in your toe.
I'm out of danger of infection now and
I seem to be healing well, however there's no new nail whatsoever.
Does any one of you know anything about this? Will my toe just be forever bold?

A year!! Omg!! It looks so scary that I wouldn't dare to wear sandals in public. What happened with yours? It just fell?

I smashed my toe once- the old nail stayed on but turned black- as a new one grew it slowly pushed off the damaged one so it fell off. Took mine about 6 months.

It takes a year for a toenail to grow back. They grow very slow. That is what my podiatrist (foot doctor) told me

I had a nail on each toe fall off around the same time, I have those weird toes where the second toe is longer than the big one and I guess I wore shows too tight and they just started peeling off from back to front. I don't remember how long it took to grow back, probably about as long as it would take for a full nail to grow that long normally. Thy are very brittle and hard now, I could even clip the nails like half off and feel no pain strangely enough, so it never really fully connected back to all the skin under the nails I guess.

Oh! Thanks ladies! Then that gives me hope. I was pretty worried. My toenail was removed through surgery because I had a toe infection and doctors didn't even know what the problem was. I told them the nail was ok but they cut it off anyways. Then they said "hey look at that, you were right, the nail was ok. It'll take about two weeks before it starts growing again." I got antibiotics and now my toe is fine but I got seriously worried when I saw no nail at all. Thanks a million beauties!

My grandma had to have hers removed for some reason and it hasn't grown back. I guess it depends on how it's taken off, haha.

My toe got infected once and I just cut off half of it myself... it grew back but the growth WS painfully slow...took 9 -10 months...

Sorry for the last answer.. Actually I accidentally dropped a large and heavy box I was caring on my feet.. and my toe was the only one that got the hole wait of the box.. My nail fell almost instantly.. Now it's perfect again.. Though like you I was very embarrassed to let other people see..
