If there was No youtube or social media would you still buy makeup products? Why do you buy them? what does it do for you?

Gosh... you're making me think! Without youtube or social media I Wouldn't know how to use them. My mom doesn't use makeup at all, I thin I would do the same! ;)

I think I would actually buy more if it wasn't for social media! I rely a lot on reviews and videos to know what to purchase. Before there was such a great beauty community online, I'd just buy everything that seems interesting and try it. Now I can research and get to see products in action before I buy. I think there are some people who will see something online and get it compulsively, but I really try not to do that and make informed decisions instead. Great questions!

If there wasn't a beauty community I think I'd still buy the same. Working in the industry gives me a chance to play with everything, I buy things that I know work and that I test. I love having a big collection of makeup :)

I buy makeup because I'm a makeup addict lol. If it weren't for YouTube I probably wouldn't have known about some amazing products. Everyone spends their disposable income on what they choose. I choose makeup. Makeup is MY hobby. Some people buy clothes and are into fashion, others love food and dine. Some people love to travel. Makeup makes me happy.

I'm not really "into makeup," its more of a necessity for me than a hobby()though it used to be when I was younger). So this is really the only avenue to beauty I use. I never use YouTube or anything, but I do read a lot of reviews and discussion topics here on Beautylish. When I was really young and started wearing makeup (and had absolutely no concept of money's value), I would take my parents credit card and buy all the makeup I found aesthetically pleasing in the packaging. I LOVED Anna Sui in the early 2000s... I don't remember how I liked the makeup, but the packaging was absolutely magical to me. It made me consider a career in product design since I would buy things I wouldn't necessarily normally have bought just because the container was absolutely amazing and the packaging they sold it in looked interesting. Since I did that for so long, I have tried a ton of different brands and items throughout the years and now I buy things out of habit or preference from ages ago. Now I'm starting to buy new things because I enjoy reading consumer reports and reviews.

Now a days, i buy what i "need", just like what Natalie said, makeup is more of a necessity to me rather then a hobby. I can't allow myself to buy makeup every other day or every week (like some people do). And i'm not saying thats a bad thing, do what you wish but for me, i buy what i need & finish what i have before i buy anymore.

Thanks for the answers everyone I was curious to why the large amount of people so interested in makeup or becoming A artist is it because of social media and do they truly believe what social makeup gurus say.Is it really An interest for most people.Liza I know how you feel I was doing this before social media to lol lets just say at my time jlo was a fly girl.

Im a makeup addict but I am also an inspiring makeup artist therefore I buy tons of makeup. This helps me see what products are better for certain people. For example Urban Decays Naked foundation is better for girls with oily skin. For me it dries my skin out just a smidge. But MACs foundation is better for me. For my everyday makeup I use BB cream :) cheapies :) Cheapies are sometimes better than the namebrands!

Yes, I would still buy makeup because I got into makeup before I even cared about YouTube. I buy makeup because I've always found makeup fascinating. Even though I was born in the 80s, I grew up watching and loving the style of the studio system era. I grew up around a lot of elder women who swore by red lipstick and eyeliner. Makeup makes me look and feel confident both at work and at home. Sure, YouTube informs me of different brands but I would still enjoy the process of purchasing and applying makeup.

Lolita even the most blah colors would be beautiful :-) lets just say when I started blue was the color that was a big no no for a lot of ladies and it was consider An 80's bad idea but now it's looked at as beautiful which I'm glad had changed lol

If it wasn't for YouTube and beauty gurus I would've never been in to makeup as much as I am now because I never even knew what a foundation was before I started watching the YouTube videos :)

Honestly I would still buy make up, without YouTube or social media, but they do help make great choices so your not wasting money. I'm still new to the make up world. After I turned 26 I realized I'm not getting any younger but I'm not looking any older either, lol. I figured I always wanted to do my make up and be girly I just didn't know how. I knew where to start, took a trip to ulta saw the prices and just bulked. So I came home and went to the sites to check for allgeries and found out I was allergic to most top brands. From there it's honestly been a long year of finding great quality make up, that I can safely use. Then I discovered beautylish and YouTube. Ugh. If only I'd found y'all sooner things would have been easier. But not as much fun. From here I'm learning tips on how to do it, skin care, hair care. I'm more confident in myself
