Try going to the dermatologist. Don't pick at the acne, because cystic acne scars EXTREMELY easily!

You can read more about dealing with acne here: bit.ly/Ze1HKQ
Hormonal acne rarely gets better with skincare systems or natural treatments. If the cause is not something you can control (e.g. cutting out dairy), your best bet is talking to your doc about medications. Usually they start off with pills to reduce inflammation, and topical gel to treat it and prevent it from returning. If that treatment course doesn't work, your dr. might suggest other more 'extreme' options like birth control or Accutane.Best of luck! Let me know if you have any other questions/concerns that I might be able to help you with...I'm obviously not a skincare expert but having dealt with acne for 3+ years, I at least have some knowledge that might be helpful :)

I'm still battleing hormonal acne, but I have found a home made facial that works great! Put a table spoon on honey in a small bowl, and 3 table spoons of milk and mix together. Apply to your face and let it sit there for 10 minutes. Rinse off and dab dry! Let me know if this helps any.

I've heard some ladies talk about flax seed oil. when taken as a supplement, it's said to clear up hormonal acne. It's worth looking up.

Hormonal acne still needs to be treated from the inside and outside it does still need the use of a good skincare routine and using Aha and Bha to reduce bacteria and exfoliating but as Lizzy said and I agree a anti-inflammatory is needed and flaxseed pills or fish oil pills help a lot to reduce inflammation,if that doesn't work you can go to more evasive routes as Lizzy also pointed out.

I recommend the clarisonic to deeply clean your pores, since the cause of cystic acne is an infected hair follicle. Its also important to use a night serum for the repair of your skin, and a good moisturizer :)

Taking zinc into your diet is supposed to help but if it doesn't stop then it be best to see a dermatologist! I went on a medicine called accutane and it worked wonders! I haven't broken out in forever and my skin never gets oily!

Flaxseed pills decreased my hormonal acne big time and I started seeing seeing serious results after a month. Only use the prescription meds as a last resort because those things come with another set of nasty side-effects.

Ciara H...healing skin from the inside is what we're doing. :)

Shelley, I wish I had known about that when I was struggling with acne! I was so desperate for clear skin.
And Alison, meds like Accutane ans birth control do come with a lot of side effects - some are more serious than others (depression, fatigue etc.vs. just dry skin and lips), and it's different for everyone. Your doc will most likely start you on medications that are 'lighter', in which case you probably won't feel any different, other than noticing your skin improving! Of course you should try the Flaxseed pills Shelley suggested, but I just want to say that you shouldn't be scared of all acne medications.

The only thing that worked for me was sun beds / exposure - not ideal but it did clear it up when meds couldn't

@Katie...you didn't experience rebound acne? I used to do that in highschool. Wish I didn't. I have a small spot below my right eye that is too deep to be treated with topical...I'll have to go laser. Grown to accept it...it looks similar to a birthmark.lol.

No rebound for me but that's probably because I didn't do it until mid 20's and am too old for acne now lol

Only a gynecologist can help. I suffered from hormonal acne for almost 2 years not knowing what it was, using all expensive products to tackle it. Once she put me on medication, it took 3-4 months for the pimples to stop, now I only have to deal with scars.

I didn't need to go to my gyno...gynos aren't the only one's who can assist with hormonal acne. Nutritionists, facialist, dermos, holistic practioners can all assist with spotting and treating hormonal acne.

Hormonal acne is exactly that. Hormones. I've done a lot of googling (haha) and the best site for advice is Acne.org. But the only real way to fix hormonal acne is the pill (oral contraceptive) but that's a personal choice with many other things to put into mind.

But if you plan on going on birth control my Derm told me to see a gyno since they know a bit more about birth control and the other risks and pros/cons to being on it. I was put on ortho tri cyclen lo for acne and irregularity but I've only been taking it about a month, no big difference yet! I do want to try flaxseed oil now!
