Eyeshadow problems.. Please help??!

So I always like to smoke my eyeshadows out above the lid, then going into the crease with a darker colour, followed by a transition colour above that etc. However everytime I think I'm happy with the eyeshadow I look straight on into a mirror and it looks as though I have only put eyeshadow on my lid, see photo for example.. Please help? :)

Go a little above the crease with the darker color...I have hooded eyes and have to do it that way for it to show.

Exactly what Seph said. I have to extend the dark color practically to my eyebrows for it to show. Ugh, hooded eye problems. ;)
