I've used purple shampoos before so I'm familiar with it, but the ends of my hair are very stubborn. Is 20 mins too long to keep it in?

I personally would not leave it in for any longer then what is recommended on the label. While you can leave a conditioner in for a longer period of time, shampoo is not moisturizing so it could create a problem there.

Try a semipermanent dye and a hair mask/balm and make it a medium purple color. Leave that in for as long as necessary.

I just use it with my shampoo, leave it on while I wash my body and face then rinse it out. Thats normally close to the time on the bottle.

I mix my purple shampoo with conditioner and leave it on for about 15 mins and I don't have any problem probably cuz the conditioner lightens out the purple a bit :)

Well I've used purple shampoo before several times but it never seems to lighten the bottom few inches. I was thinking maybe apply the shampoo and foil on top, then leave it for 15-20 mins. Anyone ever try this method?

I would tone your hair with wella t11 or t18 toner then use purple shampoo

Maressa, looking at your picture, it seems to me that your ends are darker and warmer then the rest of your hair. while purple shampoo will take away any yellow or brassy tones and make the hair appear lighter, it will not actually lighten the level of your hair. your ends may need to be lifted with bleach to make them a bit lighter and then use the purple shampoo to make it match the rrest of tge hair. hope that makes sense. I try not to speak in hairstylist terms lol.

I used to leave toning shampoo on for as long as I wanted depending on the blonde I wanted my hair so it's up to you. :)

I agree with kelly... if your hair isnt all the same color it won't all lighten to same since the purple shampoo is simply used to maintain the blonde from lookin brassy or yellow in between toning the hair I use a wella one in ash blonde I don't know if its t14.

There's a possibility the ends could grab the color although I've used Redken Blonde Glam for years shampoo conditioner and twice a week treatment from the blonde glam line to combat any brassiness, left it on for around 20 minutes and never had a problem.
