I wouldn't risk doing an at home dye job for blonde. That is a risky gamble because you're going from dark to light and with you having highlights already its no telling how your hair will react. I highly advise seeing a professional or if that it isn't feasible speaking to a licensed cosmetologist at a beauty supply store for product advice. I've seen too many horrors of girls with dark hair going blond...orange hair. I tried adding honey blond highlights to my hair years ago. I looked like Carrot Tops deranged sister. My hair turned straight orange.lol.

I advise if you're going from black to blonde to go the the salon. It may be a lot more pricey but they will give you a better outcome xx

I don't think it is a realistic goal to attempt to accomplish on your own. You'll have to bleach your hair probably multiple times because it'll be hard to lift pass orange in one step. You'll need to the tone your hair to neutralize the warmth, wella makes awesome toners. And lastly you'll need to deep condition your hair a lot!

Platinum is a multi-step process no matter what your haircolor is. I know a professional can be expensive, just keep in mind that if you damage your hair and it turns all types of orange you'll have to have it professionally fixed anyway and they charge an arm and a leg for color correction. With that being said I think the safest way to achieve more blonde would be to continue to add highlights. Go to a beauty supply store like Sally's. Usually they're very helpful with product recommendations :) Highlights will take longer but they are way less damaging. It's the safe route to go :)

Don't know if I.should dye my hair golden brown first all over. or just go straight bleaching it blonde which way is faster?

I would have to agree with the other ladies here...I did mine at home with violet bleaching powder and a 30v developer but I still went today to the salon to have it toned. if you have black hair you will most likely end up orange while the rest of the highlighted hair will end up white blonde...don't risk going up that many levels at home. fork out the extra dough to see a professional so they can tell you what your hair can stand...you don't want your long hair snapping off.

And don't dye it before...that will just he extra color you are going to have to get out of your hair and even that will turn a different color. I really don't think you're going to be happy with results on your own.

Maybe go to Sally's and ask for a high lift color in ash or neutral. Then the directions usually say to add two parts devoloper and one part color. If you put bleach all over it will fry the crap out of the blonde before the dark can get past orange. It's a difficult task even for a stylist. Lots of steps crammed into one process is asking for some bad results IMO. Dying it a color first is just going to do further damage

I stay in florida and the salons here are really exspensive. too exspensive for my.budget lol.

If going to a salon is too costly for you check out the local beauty schools. With spring around the corner many of them are doing hair shows and need live "hair models". Many schools also offer services that are waaayyyy cheaper than your typical salon and the students are supervised by their instructors so you'll be in safe hands. I don't know what part of Florida you reside in...I live in Northeast Florida but Paul Mitchell has a few schools here...Jacksonville, Miami, Orlando and I think Tampa. Aveda also has schools as well. Worth checking out.

Going from black to platinum is pretty much impossible in one step. especially if you already have color on your hair. is the black natural or is it color? if you were to slap bleach all over your head, the pieces that are already blonde will most likely be damaged. one time with bleach won't lift your black light enough. it will be orange. like Taylor said, hilites would be your safest option, but platinum won't happen over night. this would be a step by step process that will take a while. please don't try this yourself. if a salon is not an option then I would advise to pick another color to aim for. platinum is no joke and you could end up with some serious breakage and fried hair.

Use shwartzkopft L1 dyes in the shade that lightens 5-7 shades, best lightening dyes I've ever used without frying my hair. :)

I agree with everyone that recommended a professional. I have been bleaching my hair platinum blonde for about 12-13 years and I still wouldn't do this process at home! I would be more worried about all of the highlighted areas burning off than I would be worried about my hair turning orange! You can fix the orange tones (with a lot of time and money), but you cannot magically make those burned off bit grow any faster.
I was going to recommend a beauty school just like Shelley suggested. It will really be a fraction of the price and your hair will suffer way less damage. I went from (dyed) black to platinum blonde/white to red and back to platinum blonde/white and it was no easy process. You will probably lose a lot of length EVEN if you see a professional, but at least they can get you to the desired color with less damage than you will do to your hair. Please, please, please go to someone who knows what they are doing. Students are the best option for you so definitely look up local beauty colleges and contact them about their salon prices. You will be very surprised at what excellent service they can offer you for such a low price.
