What is a toner used for and is it a necessity. What is a good one?

I use Murad vitamin C toner. It isn't a necessity, but it can help to tighten your pores and dry out acne, but depends on the type you use.

Bobbie is right it balance your skins pH to the right level 5,5. And it takes away some left over from your cleansing product.

A toner was originally meant to balance out your Skins PH. Back then, make up was much more harsh to the skin and would throw off its PH, which is essential to keeping the skin clear. Now toner does much more as the typical facial cleanser can balance your skins PH. Now it's used to removed excess make up, help treat acne, fight bacteria, and temporarily tighten up your pores.

These girls said it. I'm very oily, acne prone and it's a must for me. It removes any traces of soap, oil or makeup left and balances my skin. I notice more breakouts without.

I also use witch hazel.. it is enough without being to much. it just helps to wipe any surface dirt left after washing but isn't an irritant. a lot of commercial toners out there are full of alcohol..

Some worthy toners to checkout...Thayers Witch Hazel w/aloe Alcohol Free, Simple toner, Mario Badsecu Aloe Vera Toner w/o alcohol and Renee Rouleau Elderberry toner. I have personally used them myself and none of them have caused me issues.
