What affects does split ends have on hair? I feel like my hair has been the same length for months and it doesn't grow like usual is it because of split ends? How do I know if I have split ends?

It can split up the shaft of the hair, causing breakage , and not looking nice at all! If you look aa single strand of your hair, and it splits , that's is split ends!
