I've always bought drugstore brands of makeup but I'm looking to explore the higher brands. I went to sephora for the first time and I was in heaven. Thank goodness I had already bought my boyfriend's present and was broke cause I would've went crazy. Anyway I guess my real question is what are the best starter things to buy? if I'm going to spend more money I want it to be worth it..so favorites?

OMG Sephora... It's a blessing and a curse. I think the awesome thing about sephora are the HE brands that aren't too hyped about... For me the things I always buy (or brands) Illamasqua, Too Faced, Lorac and Urban Decay... You cannot go wrong w these. I think for me I like spending big bucks on the things I use often and are super important. Like Foundation, primers, great palettes and lipsticks.

Before you buy any makeup (whether its high end or not) make sure you do research, read reviews online & look at swatches online & in person. See if the products are good for your skin type, etc. Thats what i do & it helps me decide so i'm not wasting time/money with MUA/Sales rep who are just trying to make commission by telling you this & that is good when it really isn't. Anyway, I recommend Nars for their quality & pigmentation. I also like Make Up Forever, Dior, Lancôme and YSL. I've tried alot & own alot but it all comes down on how well it works on my skin tone & skin type.

Well make sure you get a beauty insiders card , it's free , you get 1 point for every dollar you spend , once you hit 100 points you can get a free sample of your choice .... Also when your in the store , you can get up to 3 free samples , perfume , primers , foundation , mostly liquid things , just ask ;) not sure if people know about this

Definitely a palette.. Just go look around and see what you like and what color you think you will use often. Sephora has great products so just explore. Also try a new foundation. Ask a worker what you are looking for in a foundation and they will recommend you some. Before you purchase a foundation though always get a sample to see how you really like it. Trust me you'll see a difference in high end and drugstore foundations!!

I agree with Mary,do your research because not a lot people or if any realize how the makeup industry works.THEY ALL HAVE SISTER BRANDS so what you get at a drugstore is related to a so called High end brand its the marketing of the industry :) its not the brand or the makeup that makes you good it's how you work with it.Try everything have fun with it all.

I agree get yourself an Urban Decay palette. great place to start. they are the largest independent makeup company in the US and they are cruelty free. I also think their Naked Skin foundation is worth the splurge. happy shopping :-)

You should defiantly look into value sets which usually have a few different items from that company in one package or box. I love benefits value sets, they have a bunch of good products and this way you can try out a few things and see if you like it. Check out Benefits sexy little stowaways our "ulta"mate six or something. Lots of other brands do it to, check it out! Hope this helps a bit.

Don't buy colors you know you won't wear because you'll just end up collecting dust. Lots of things are pretty but be realistic. I would recommend a natural palette, a great foundation (I love Lancôme, makeup forever HD, too faced primers, and lipsticks are my favorite!!
