Use a liner to draw the crease first and build up from there. I would think you could use a Kohl liner so it's easy to smudge. add shadow on top of that and blend upward. make sure the crease and lid are distinct from each other.
I've only tried it twice and I think my 2nd was a whole lot better than my first.
miss Jacqueline H and Diggie can give the best pointers. Diggie is basically the master of it. lol

I know lots of people find this hard, I did a make-up course and this was one of the most tricky things for me, I have since learnt a few tricks so I made a pictorial for you :)
step 1 - with an eyeliner draw a line slightly above where your natural crease is.
step 2 - blend out the eyeliner and go over the top with an eyeshadow
step 3 - apply a colour to your lid
step 4- go back in with the crease colour and neaten up the edge
step 5 - apply liner ( looks the best in my opinion with a cut crease)
step 6- apply mascara and highlight the browbone

If primer isn't working for you the NYX jumbo pencil in milk works great. it also makes the colors pop.
