I grow my nails out long and here are my tips: always use a nail hardener, don't use them as tools, wear gloves when washing dishes or cleaning, and for cracks or breaks (ones that aren't to dramatic anyway) use nail glue to get the nail back together and buff it down smooth then apply a top coat.

Oh and make sure to moisturize your hands and nails, I like to use vitamin e oil on my cuticles and nails.
