Do you use a moisturizer?

Cliniques gel moisturiser x

Hmmm. My suggestion would be to exfoliate every few days, then apply your moisturizer, wait for it to dry and then add a bit more. You can also try a thicker moisturizer, and see if that helps.

I've tried a thicker moisturiser, it just leaves me skin over oily x

Then just exfoliate, and see if that helps :) I suggest you start with 2/3 times a week.

Use a thicker moisterizer on the specific dry areas and not all over the face.

I'm experiencing the same thing due to the crazy westher. I just stepped up on using my enyzme peel (gentle exfoliator) and I apply a shea butter based moisturizing cream. Hasn't caused additional oil production for me. And I've taken to using a moisturizing mask. Since you're already using Clinique investigate their Moisture Surge Overnight Mask. Its essentially a thick oil free moisturizer for nighttime use but this stuff is awesome.

The Clinique Gel Moisturizer is probably too light for skin at this time due to the weather conditions ( I'm assuming you reside in the States).

Maybe those dry patches are eczema or smth? because of your weather:-)

Sounds like oily skin, with dehydration (which is a skin condition that can occur regardless of your skin type) cleanse, tone and moisturise with products for oily skin, and exfoliate 2-3 times focusing on areas of dry patchy skin, also this can occur due to weather, use a primer/moisturiser that protects your skin from weather realted issues underneath your make-up, steaming for 5-10min 1 a week will also benefit :)
