Dry Shampoo

Maybe there is a stylist on here that can shed some light on my current contemplative state. Bear with me while I explain...so we're told that it is important NOT to wash our hair more than 3-4 max times per week.

The whole point of not washing hair is to let your hair's natural oils reproduce and nourish your scalp which in turn, gives your hair a better overall look, texture and shine. But then we are also told to use dry shampoo in-between washes...and even though they don't contain the harsh sulfates that shampoos do, they are designed to absorb and dissolve oil.

Are you starting to see why I'm confused?! Why use dry shampoo to remove oil that we're supposed to let build up to create and reinforce healthy hair.

SO! The million dollar question: why use dry shampoos to remove oil if the oil is the entire reason we don't wash our hair everyday?

Shampoo for thought.

oil is good for the hair. but you don't want too much oil making it look greasy, that's why there is dry shampoo.

Dry shampoo should only be used when needed. I can not wash my hair for 3 days before it starts getting greasy. I only use very little if I find its too oily and I'm going somewhere. But if just at home I don't bother with it.

Beware: brushing your hair stimulates oil production! Use a wide tooth comb instead :)

The dry shampoo just absorbs excess oil, it doesn't strip all the oils from your hair like regular shampoo.

Dry shampoo is different from washing it. It basically "tricks" your hair.
