Wanna high light my hair, but a little confused on if I should do light medium or dark highlights help? I have pretty dark hair.

I love dark hair & highlight my hair but I didn't want to damage my hair so I didnt go to light, plus I didn't want to have to go to the salon every month for root touch ups. So I don't stray too far from my natural dark brown shade. Here is my hair. And I will post other suggestions.

I would say medium so that you can still see them but they aren't just like bam you have really bright highlights.
