Ok, before I get into the school situation let me tell you about the living situation in Los Angeles. Not to discourage you but to make you very aware because L.A. is not for the faint at heart. Living in Southern Cali is SUPER expensive. I'm from there and my apartment rent was more than my current mortgage payment on my home. You will need to look into a roommate situation if you expect to eat and just basically survive. The transportation system is pretty decent....you can literally take a train/bus to anywhere. If you have a car expect to pay an arm and a leg for registration and smog certification (it all depends on the year of the car for auto tags) and auto insurance is high as well. Everything is just HIGH. School wise...there is a huge selection. You have Cinema Make-up School based out of Hollywood, MUD in Burbank ( suburb just 15 north of downtown L.A.), Napoleon Perdis and Joe Blasco both located in Hollywood. I've heard nothing but great things about all the schools I just listed. If you can afford it the best thing I suggest is going out there and visiting the schools that look most promising to you because that is the only way that you will get a direct feel of the students and instructors. They talk a smooth game over the phone but there is nothing more telling than actually seeing/feeling for yourself the environment. You don't want get there sight unseen and be disappointed. I don't know where you're currently living but I have to tell you upfront that L.A. is one cut-throat place. I tell anyone that is looking to move there that if they can survive L.A. they can survive anywhere. You gotta be a strong chick to handle the super rude and insensitive, shallow folks that reside there. You will come across a few gems from time to time but no one is going to hand you anything on a silver platter. So you will need to hustle to get yourself out there and recognized. It will require you to create opportunities instead of waiting for them to show up. So with that in mind....L.A. is a great place creatively for artists. You have the tv/movie studios, fashion industry (second to N.Y.C)...plenty of opportunity to get yourself an intern/externship at many of the cosmetic companies there (Too Faced is based in Southern Cali). The sky is the limit and only you control how far you go girl. Sorry for the blunt response but I don't believe in sugarcoating my hometown for anyone and even though I survived it and did quite well it wasn't without a few tears and anger thrown in for good measure. I hope I was some help for you. :)
