I love going into stores and swatching every lipstick on my hands and arm. I live for lipstick swatching. Unfortunately, I never buy any, because I'm super paranoid it'll look great on my arm and horrible on my face. Sometimes, I'll come across a tester lipstick that has clearly never been used by anyone, and I strongly consider testing it on my lips. I never have, but do you guys think it's just too unsanitary to risk? I'm totally torn between being a nut for bright lipsticks, and a total germaphobe. Would you guys test an unused tester lipstick on your lips if no one was looking?

Use the throw away applicators they have provided for you. You can actually get herpes from testers like cold sores I wouldn't take the chance

Swatch the lipstick tester on your fingertips as the colouring is very similar to that of the lips. I probably wouldn't test it since someone else after me will probably swatch it and then it will be a crazy germ swap party haha. If I was going to test it I would get a tissue or a q tip to sample it on the back of my hand then apply rather that directly with the bullet if it was unused :)

Take some makeup wipes with you and just wipe the lipstick clean first and then try it on, should work fine.

Ask the lady at the counter to clean it with a wipe and then spray it with alcohol for you. That's what I do for my customers. I work at shoppers drug mart in the cosmetics section!

Take a makeup wipe to clean the top of the lipstick and then use the disposable applicators to apply it!
