Depending how long ago you were exposed, hot water can spread it.

The shower will spread it. If it is really bad see your doctor. Otherwise an over the counter cortisone cream will help.

I frequently get contact dermatitis. You have to get off the oily reside that the ivy has left behind. I used to use adhesive remover pads but those are expensive and the main ingredient is alcohol. So take a cotton ball and rub the area with alcohol. This will strip oils and dry out rash. (It's totally safe, recommended by my dr). You can also make a paste of baking soda a water and this draws out more of the rash and oils. Leave paste on til dry rinse cold. Benedryl can cut active rash time in half. Don't soak in tub, cause major spreading. After alcohol and baking soda definitely dr with calamine to soothe. I've had contact dermatitis well over 100 times and have tried various treatments and now I just do what I said above and it usually stays very small and contained and heals quickly. You can repeat alcohol or baking soda several times daily.

Oils from the plant will spread with heat and water...I've used noxious chemicals to remove poison Ivy oils, but won't share which... wouldnt want to give anyone bad ideas...

I used to work at a camp in TN that had lots of it. Technu is a product marketed to remove the oil and seems to work well. We used to use dish detergent l, like Dawn, to wash the kids down, too. Seemed to work. I've heard oatmeal baths help with the itching after the oils are gone, but I'd shower to get the oil off and clean the tub good to avoid oils on top of the water before you do that.
