I never really got how to do the smokey eye and I've watched many vids and I still can't figure it out. Any help would be appreciated.

I take a really creamy eye pencil and apply it really dark and heavy to my upper lash line, then take a smudger brush and blend the line up so it diffuses. Then If I need to I line my upper lash line again, this time close and thin. I'll then take a shadow matching whatever color I used on the too of my eye and smudge it lightly under my bottom lashes. Sometimes I take a glittery shade and put it right on the middle of my eye.
