Have you tried lining your waterline with white eyeliner? I suggest NYX Pencil in Milk, it mimics the eyes natural whiteness opening it up. You could also try using a light shimmery color in the inner tearduct area (not sure what to call it) to make eyes look awake. Hope I helped (:
