Amy, I'm glad that yourself & other skin experts like traci are on here to offer your expertise!
Do you recommend anything for cystic breakouts? I notice my skin has been getting more sensitive the older I've gotten especially to trying new products. I recently picked up the MUFE hd foundation & it broke me out (a few cystic zits). What do you recommend to get rid of these? & thanks much!

Can you tell me a little more about red light therapy? Could this help melasma? Any recommended brands?

Amy S.
Cystic acne as a condition should be treated by a dermatologist. Ocassional cystic breakout may be treated several ways...
Cold theraphy... to reduce inflammation.
Basically, a cyst is a lesion. An infection below the skin, localized. Our body protects its self from foreign bodies, in this case p. Acne bacteria, by a process called a langernhan response. Which triggers tcells to localize around bacteria, and encase it leukocytes, eg. White blood cells. Which is what the pus is. Too much inflammation, stimulates over production in this process. Causing cell death... and eventually scarring and pigmentation. So, you dknt want to extract, or pick cystic acne.
Like I was saying...
Reduce inflammation
Cold theraphy
Direct high frequency (also kills l acne bacteria)
Oxygen treatments (also kills l acne bacteria)
Once inflammation is down, you can dry it out with benzols or sal spot treatments.

Some cystic lesions need to be drained by a dermatologist. Aesthticians are not licnesed to do so... so don't let them. And sometimes steriods have to be injected into cyst to reduce inflammation.
I have to wax a client. Ill answer melasma question in a bit...

I'm personally skeptical of red light and pigmentation. But to eacb there own. Imo, for inflammation, acne treatment, and anti age therapies are the best applkcation of different colored light therapies.
Melasma... tricky tricky tricky, and hard to treat. Appears as a "butterfly" or symetrical pattern on face. Usually triggered by hormones, e.g. pregency, birth control
Getting rid of it... is an entensive combination of homecare, and a strict treatment plan that takes about 4 to6 months, and may need to be repeated six mknths later. Reguargless, treatments are a gradule buiild up up chemical peels and tyrosinise inhibitors. Slowly lifting pigmentation, without damaging the skin. It takes dedication.

I'm always looking to improve my skincare regime. Amy can I ask what your current skincare regime is and are there any anti virus aging products in particular that you would recommend?
Jun 26, 2014
Mhairi M.

Traci...gurl...I know a few myself but there is a ton of them. LaMer comes to mind...their marketing PR to pull on the heartstrings (and our wallet) on consumers is a big scam. But I will confess I love their lipbalm and its been working great with my antioxidant lip treatment but other than that...the face/body creams are a joke. You and I both know seaweed is not a pricey ingredient.lol.

Amy...you should explain the difference between cosmetic skincare versus the medical skincare as I know you had spoken briefly about it on another thread for ladies needing serious skincare.

I'm commited to a medical line called circadia. That being said, I'm not pushing it. I suggest people see skin specialists for a custom routine.
In morning
I double cleanse
Sal cleanser, then honey... sometimes I mix them
After I use a hyrolonuc mist... calundula and aloe
Vit c serum
Mycocyte serum
Meristem serum
Under eye repair
Spf
Evening
Oil cleanse makeup
Honey cleanse
Thayers rose which hazel
Vit c
Mycocyte (peptides)
Meristem (peptides)
Nighttime eye repair
Alternate night moisture phito pep 1.6, and a post peel balm
I have very reactive skin due to autoimmune issues... inflammation is an issue I work to keep under control.

I've never heard of the serums that you use, are they widely available or prescribed?

Amy any advice for ezcema?, the itch, the scars... everything
Jun 26, 2014
Amy S.
Soon as I'm done with my next apt. Ill takk about medical and retail lines...great idea.
Jun 26, 2014
Amy S.
Circadia is only available through skincare professionals. If its found online, the product is old, the seller is not authroized, a you should not purchase it. You can find out what spas or dermatologists carry it by calling or checking with company.
That is one of the first differences between medical and retail...
Medical lines are manufactured under same regulations as perscription drugs
Meducal line have hi levels of active ingredient, no filler, and only contain ungredients that benefit skin or product
Medical lines are NEVER sold in department stores, sephora, ulta, drug stores ect.
Often medical lines are only offered at spas where a dermatologist supervises aestheticians
Medical grade, and perscription grade, are not medical lines
Cosmeceutucals us a made up term to sell product
Retail anti ageing products rarely have enough active ingredient to see result
Medical are formulated by doctors, not by coorperations... the product is result driven
Products can be strong, and thats why skincare specialists dustribute them... its also why they arent mass market retail... use them wrong... you can damage your skin
They are made in smaller baches
There is nothing wrong with retail. I understand that people like what they like. When it comes to cost, yes medical has a hefty price tag. But, when you consider the lack of filler, and high concentration of actives, you pay less then you would in department stores... you see results,

Traci, look into mycocyte, by circadia. You can get pro account and tgey don't have min order. The peptide in it mimics effects of botox on muscles. Clinicals are awsome, product won line and spa best of in 2012... also look into switch treatments.

I sure will Amy ,thanks for all the information hun.

I came kinda late but I have a queation. I only wash my face and do mud mask actual mud from mexico 'barro' they use to make vases and stuff. Its the only thing that helps my acne it has healed my skin too, is this good or not. I'm tired of buying worthless products but I can't go to a dermatologist any advice?
Jun 27, 2014
Bree B.
Is that your skin now in your profile pic, Betsy? You look amazing, your skin is beautiful. I don't think I would use Mexican clay on my face unless I was actually familiar with the origin personally. Like if you're familiar with the brand, or the mud harvesting process and feel comfortable with it, then I wouldn't worry but I personally wouldn't use a mud with a name that sounds like burro, lol. ;)
But your skin looks great! I would be worried, especially if it is used for pottery, about high metal content.
