Little background...

I didnt wear womans clothing til my mid 20s
Did embrace wearing color til my 30s
I'm a grung era, hardcore punk girl... if it smells clean, I wear it... omg... can't believe I admitted that.

I'm heavy set, but it carries nice... not insecure with it... more insecure with todays fashions. I'm getting too old to dress like I do... I have my own medical aesthetic practice, and look like I'm going to a nirvana concert... yeah, its that bad... I don't like black... for me, color effects mood.

Wheres the happy balance? Or do I just hope clients accept me as I am? I'm very picky about professionalism too. I wore scubs for a while...

I hate synthetics too... my skin crawls...

Any ideas fashionistas... cause men dress better then me now

A few basic fashion tips for anyone;
•Emphasize what you feel is your best feature. Show off your legs in a nice skirt, wear a shirt that shows off your shoulders and chest, or emphasize your waist. Find what makes you confident.
•You can always modify clothing to suit your age/needs/occasion.
Based on what you said, you want to look professional for your job? You also stated that you don't like black, but you're a big fan of punk, hardcore, and grungy styles. For day to day, you could always wear a band t-shirt of your choice and dress if up with a colorful cardigan, like a red or jewel tone, and jeans and shoes of your choice. For a dressier option, silky sheer blouses with a cami underneath paired with a nice pencil shirt (I'd recommend grey since you don't wear black) and a statement piece of jewelry always looks lovely. You could 'tough it up' with a bold chain link necklace and killer heels/wedges. To highlight your figure, the pencil skirt should be highwaisted and the shirt should be tucked in, emphasizing/creating an hourglass shape. The second outfit I mentioned is also professional enough that you could wear it to work (possibly) or on a date. (:You could also switch the blouse to a band t-shirt and exchange the grey skirt to a bold color to jazz it up. the most important thing to remember when getting into fashion is to stay true to yourself, and not to limit yourself to one genre of style. It's completely okay to wear a grungy outfit one day and a floral dress the next. Fashion and style are limitless, so have fun with it! You also said you were insecure with today's fashions. I'm interpreting this as insecure in the trendy stuff, whether is be how you look in it or how it suits your personal style? I'd recommend looking for classic staple pieces; blazers, cardigans, dresses, a line shirts, pencil skirts, blouses, and a fitted leather jacket. Getting these pieces with an interesting twist, like a bold color or pattern, keeps it modern. Like I said, find what you like.

Hmmm... thats really great. Got me thinking for sure. Its a pain for plus size. Not much selection, but I think I can work with this... I order stuff online a lot... I love rockabilly...but its so time consuming.

I would also try a lane Bryant or torrid at a time they aren't busy- earlier or later, maybe a weekday and they can really spend some time dressing you. It sounds like you know what you like, so that is half the battle! If you like their clothing, you can always order more in other colors online. I hope this helps- I am plus sized and I shop at Catherine's , used to shop & work part time at fashion bug, which I desperately miss, and I find things occasionally at kohls or avenue. Torrid is not my style because I'm a teacher and I'm 34, but if I were younger or in another industry, I would totally shop at torrid.

You don't need to go with trends... There's always the classic look that fit any age in any era in any size.

I love rockabilly style! I find ordering online best for any pin up or rockabilly styles. I really like modcloth, which does offer plus sizes, and Viva Dulce Marina is another site I've heard great reviews about. Pinupgirlclothing.com is good also. But clothing is only half the look. An easy way to add a rockabilly vibe to any outfit is wear the hair and the makeup to go along with it. To be honest, I'm not a fan of the newer trends either. I'm a big fan of classic pieces and vintage finds, rather than the logo shirts. Just not my personal style, though I know many who enjoy it. And no kidding about the 90s coming back! I saw a girl in one of my classes wearing a nirvana shirt and I got excited, as its an old favorite of mine, and asked her what her favorite song was. To my dismay, she didn't even know nirvana was a band. I just about had a heart attack.

Hahaha, wait, sobsobsob...
Yeah, that get on my t#ts too. I'm a true punk. I sport my Germs lexicon devil shirt with pride... this whole new generation of neopunk have mo idea who darby crash was...

Rockabilly... hair, makeup, no problem... I've sported it with blue jeans, cardgans, and ts... more of the punk side of rockabilly. I've gotten LAZY.

Regan, you know your stuff, I likes that...

Speaking of 90s... I saw ox blood docs today... my heart warmed over...

My generation, was thrift store heaven. Levi 505, worn to shreds, converse, thermal shirts with witty tshirts, and dads old flannels... cigarette burned, mismatched, anti fashion...

Ox blood docs are my favorite color of doc martens made! Haha. And thrift stores are lovely. You never know what unique pieces you can find. And I like what you said about grungy takes some work. It looks so effortless, but it really does take some work to find the right pieces and style them the right way! I've heard the Hi, How Are You album by him but I've never seen any shirts around. It's funny how once a celebrity wears it, the whole world is searching for the same thing they wore.
