Hey guys,
About a week or so ago I got some African Black Soap by Nubian because of a recommendation from someone. I've been wanting to try to clear up the acne on my chest and shoulder area. Since it is winter time my skin is really dry.
Like I said, it's been a week or so and to be honest I haven't really seen any improvements, actually I've seen a lot more acne, especially smaller ones come up. Now, I know that African black soap brings up the impurities in your skin, so you may break out at first, but I just want to hear anyone elses stories when it comes to this product. Did your skin eventually clear up after using it continually?
Btw, this is my regiment.
-Wash body with the black soap and a face cloth in shower.
-Spray apple cider vinegar on body after I dry myself.
-Wash off the apple cider vinegar
-Apply the Aztec Healing Clay to my skin
-Remove the clay, then apply coconut oil to moisturize my skin
What do you guys think? Maybe I'm drying my skin to much with these natural products?
thanks

I use this Nubian and I too had some minor breaking out for the first week and a half. Then it subsided after that time. Now my skin can't go a day without it. Its not uncommon. If you're seeing cystic acne then I suggest stop using it.

I have never used African Black Soap to treat the mild acne I had, but there has been no relationship proven between african black soap to acne - it is mostly marketing. All soap bars will dry up skin from the oils it produces, so any soap bar meant for your face will do the same trick. You may continue useage for a full skin cycle or discontinue it. The only impurities it should be bringing up is from acne bumps that have been there before, if it is causing new acne that could be your skin's way of telling you that it is irritated with the product and may be disagreeing with the ingredients used.
As for over drying your skin? You most certainly are, and you are not moisturizing it either. Coconut oil is not a moisturizer and will just seal in existing moisture, however by using a soap bar, following with a clay mask you have already stripped your skin of any existing moisture. Apple Cider vinegar should never be used on skin unless it's diluted with water. ( 50/50 ). And in it's organic, raw form. most filtered ACV products are just regular vinegar with food coloring added to it- any other vinegar other than organic, unfiltered ACV should never be used. Nor is there any need to wash it off unless you feel that you want to.
Coconut Oil is also Moderately Comedogenic, so you may be clogging your pores by using it and contributing to it. I recommend using a non-comedogenic oil or an oil low in comedogenicity.
I hope you find my information useful ☺

Here's a link to the vitamin shoppes site, they carry alaffia products which have neem in them and are not drying. They sell pure neem but that has quite an... Original?... Smell ;) hope this helps! It did a lot better job that the black soap did!! http://m.vitaminshoppe.com/mobile/store/en/search/productListing.jsp?facets.enabled=true&maxResult=10&startIndex=1&br=true&restrictBy=category%3D014_b100439&taxonomy=private:common&rankBy=popular-noindex-(int):descending&categories.include=node:014_b100439&categories.enabled=true.

Ps. The only reason I am temporarily using the black soap is because my local store was out and I couldn't let up on my skin. Lol rebellion.

Thanks for the comments guys.
After reading some of these posts, I'm going to stop using the Apple Cider Vinegar and the Aztec Healing clay and just let the black soap do the work. I am also not going to use it twice a day like I have been, instead, I'll cut down to every other day.
I'll also try to moisturize instead with a bottle of Cere Ve everyday instead of the coconut oil.
I also just ordered the real black soap from coastalscents.com, when that comes in, I'll switch over to that.

I was under the impression that ABS already exfoliates the skin really well.
Just curious, what do you guys think about coconut oil? I've heard that it is good for your skin, but I haven't really seen the results to back that up.

@Gianluca...oh my word!! How often were you using the Aztec Healing Mask? And did you use the Nubian soap to cleanse your face before application of the mask? No wonder your poor skin is acting up. The mask should only be used once a month and to cleanse the face before application a basic non-active cleanser is key. The coconut oil is great but only if using a serum to lock in the benefits of that and even then I wouldn't use it everyday as my primary moisturizer. The Aztec clay mask is super drying as it literally sucks EVERYTHING out of your pores...even vital moisture.

@Cali...thank you for posting my review on the Nubian African Black soap. Its definitely been a benefit for my skin especially as far as controlling my oil production and speeding up the drying process with any acne that does decide to pop up. Its definitely not a cure all to end all but just a part of the arsenal to clear skin (at least for me it is).

Coconut oil is actually quite ideal for skin as it's actually absorbed by the skin. Unlike mineral oil, olive oil and petrolatum which are meant to seal in moisture and just sit on top of the skin and make the skin greasy. I've tried just applying olive oil for weeks and I just felt greasy yet my face felt tight underneath. With coconut oil my face feels moisturized and doesn't feel greasy at all. I know a lot of Pacific Islanders used coconut oil on their skin and have really nice skin and have used it for a long time and it seems to be doing a good job for them so...

@Shelly, what would you recommend for a moisturizer then?
I have some Cera Ve, coconut oil, but I can also pick up some shea butter at my local health store since I am getting some authentic black soap coming in any day now.

@Gianluca...shea butter is awesome!! I have some myself but a very tiny amount will cover your entire face so no need to get a huge tub of it. I don't know where you reside at but when the weather starts warming up you will want to investigate a gel based moisturizer. Clinique has a great one...I can't remember the name of it. And Mario Badsecu has oil free moisturizers for daytime use (spf30) and an evening version.
