I've been hearing about everyone's love for coconut oil and was curious as to what's your favorite use for it? I really wanted to try it for my skin but after reading up on it I'm amazed at every use there is for it!

Does it make your hair greasy?
Feb 17, 2014
Shannon B.
I use it for my hair.
I find it doesn't make my hair oily. You just have to make sure it is all washed out. If it is not washed out it will make your hair oily

I also use it after I shave my legs ill put it all over my legs then ill leave it on for 30 minutes making
sure I don't smudge it off then I have a shower and my legs are silky smooth after and actually look like the people's legs on those. Commercials were there almost like shiny

I use it on my face every night as it is a great at soothing and moisturizing my eczemic skin and is antibacterial which is awesome for acne. I also have a separate container with the coconut oil to separate which one I use for beauty and which one I use for food. Coconut oil is an excellent and much healthier alternative to using butter or margarine because it does the job of what butter or margarine can do l, while also providing numerous health benefits. There is also something called a coconut oil diet, where you eat a spoon of coconut oil 3 times a day by itself and it really really helps with losing weight, since it helps to clean out your body of any toxins and waste. Coconut oil also has a very nice sweet scent that many people love.

One thing I don't think many people know, is that oils are meant to SEAL in moisture, not necessarily moisturize anything. Use it after you apply your daily leave in conditioner, or after conditioning, or apply moisturizer! Coconut oil is amazing when used the correct way! Sorry I don't mean to sound rude but it's not meant to moisturize, but is does make moisture last longer!

I love it to exfoliate with. I mix in some sugar and use it to the back of my hands since they are always cracking and gross. I also use it on my legs before shaving, and my lips as a lip scrub.

I use it in hair masks, as a moisturizer after a shower, makeup remover, face wash at night, cuticle oil, and to seal hair ends. And of course you can cook with it too.

My coconut oil doesn't smell like nothing did I get the wrong one? haha

Actually coconut oil is one of few oils that can be absorbed, it's not an occlusive agent. I believe mineral oil is an occlusive agent and so is olive oil and petrolatum. Occlusive agents stay on top of the skin and keep moisture in. A lot of times you few moisturizers with water and mineral oil. The mineral oil is meant to keep the water on the skin and make it feel hydrated. That's why when I used olive oil as a moisturizer my face still felt tight and dry even with the oil on. But with coconut oil, it's different it's actually an emollient I believe but using too much can cause dryness. What I do is use a little bit of coconut oil since it's actually moisturized and then a tad bit of olive oil to keep that moisture on my skin

@Tania the coconut oil you're using may have been refined which means it was bleached and deodorized. Its best to use extra virgin coconut oil. Preferably one that is cold pressed.

Aurora gave the best fact that's super important and I love it after a shower as a moisturizer it can be greasy but use a towel to whip off any extra and I have sensitive acne probe skin and never clogs pores like almost any other product dose

I use it for a lot of things but mainly to seal in my leave in hair conditioner and sometimes on my face after application of my nighttime serum. Do a patch test before going all out with it as some people have learned that they are allergic to it.

I use it on my hair as a mask, on my skin for the oil cleansing method or overnight as a moisturizer, and I mix it with sugar for a body scrub.
