So I had a haircut a few months ago and have been trying to grow it out, it's a plum colour at this point in time and I can really see where the breakage is happening in my ends due to my dark colour. Are there any ways I can reduce the breakage occurring? Really don't want another haircut so soon, they make me nervous! Any kinds of treatments or anything you ladies would suggest?

Hot oil treatments, don't brush your hair when it's wet, don't use heated styling products in a regular basis and use heat protect when using them, avoid tying hair up too tight, wash conditioner out with cold water, and avoid washing your hair everyday.

@Devon, the only thing I'm guilty of is washing my hair often rather than every other day. I don't use heat tools often, maybe once a month and I always let my hair air dry, down. Which is why it worries me that it's forever going to be like this haha.

@Jacqlyn, I'm buying coconut oil when I go shopping next, I'm hoping it works wonders like everyone says it does haha, thanks girl 😊 x

Extra virgin olive oil, cheap big portion. can't go wrong, I'm so mad over the years buying all these products that were expensive when one day I came across the olive oil. CHANGED my life I even use it on my extensions and now last FOREVER and after a few uses my hair looks and feels amazing and lasts!! make sure though to wash it out properly with really any shampoo. I heat it up in microwave for like 30 seconds than apply all over leave in however desired to soak up sometimes I put hair cap or plastic bag over hair overnight and get such a deep con dish!! try it you will die!!

Washing every 2nd day is best, washing hair every day will deplete moisture content of hair, so that it loses it's elasticity, bounce, and suppleness.

Get a Wet Brush. Walmart, Target, Sally's..they all have them. Joico shampoo and conditioner is excellent. You can get it for a song at Marshalls.

I'm in the same boat! One thing that had really helped is Redken anti-snap. Gotta use it every time your hair is wet. And brush your hair with a wide toothed comb or wet brush.

Nothing will get rid if split ends once they've split but a trim. Good products especially since you color treat your hair will help minimize and conceal breakage. If your hair is thin, fine and/or oily don't use the products I recommend or it will weigh it down.
- Twice a month use protein treatment. I like Redken Anti Snap Leave In Spray Protein
- A good shampoo and Conditioner Redken All Soft
- Kerastase Intensive Masque use twice a month.
- Kerastase Nutritive Oleo Serum is makes hair appear healthy and is also good product for styling.
- Kerastase Nutritive Curl Cream great if you have curls it defines and seperates.
- Thermal Protector - before heat even comes near your hair use a heat protectant.

Redken extreme line is specifically made for weak and damaged hair. I almost always suggest going to a cosmetology school or a votech school an getting your hair done with protein treatments and other treatments one of my favorite to get rid of frizz and make your hair shinier is a clear gloss treatment.

The only thing I don't see listed in all these awesome suggestions is use a sulfate free shampoo. That is absolutely crucial in helping your hair, especially since you color it. The redken anti snap that was listed is really awesome, but I'll be honest, Redken uses sulfates in their shampoos, so us just their products rather than shampoo. The BEST ever shampoo for hair like you're describing is from Pureology, it is a bit pricey but I promise you your life will change. It's called their "Nano Works" line. I've been using it over a year now and seriously my hair has finally got into some amazing shape. It's made specifically for "aging" hair. Not meaning elderly people, but the longer your hair is the older it is, so it's made for long hair. They put magical stuff in there that making your hair feel like golden silk upon a satin pillowcase. I chopped my hair to my chin over 10 years ago and literally have been trying to get "mermaid" (hair that covers your boobies :]) since and it wasn't until I started using that shampoo that my hair finally got to that point (I too color my hair, but once I started doing hair as a profession, I slowed it down a bit to help my hair get healthy). So now that I have written you a book on why this shampoo is so amazing and completely worth the price, let me know if you do try it! Like I said...life changing!! And I think all the other comments have awesome suggestions as well :]

Redken shampoo kinda sucks in general and it's not just because of sulfates. Sulfates in moderation aren't bad, when they are one of the main ingredients that's when it's bad.

I do use a sulfate free shampoo and I used to dye my hair every 2 weeks or every month and this is the least I've dyed my hair In about 5 years so (I only dye it every 4-5 months now) so I've tried to change the way I care for my hair a lot but it still seems like it could be better, yano? Haha! I might have to try the Redken line! :) thanks girls for all your help and suggestions, hopefully in a month or so I'll notice a difference 😊
