Just a regular pencil, but I push black shadow on top so it has staying power!

I only wear it on the top because on the bottom it makes my eyes look droopy. I use pencil.

I think you are talking about tiightlining your upper water line and not the lid. Everyone else is talking about the lid! But when I tightline I use waterproof liquid mascara!

Tightlining is the pressing of a gel liner into your upper lashline from directly below it for ultimate definition. It is a very cool technique. Personally I prefer using a flat liner brush, and waterproof gel liner. I believe that it works best that way, but it is perfectly fine to tightline using a pencil, just make sure it is sharpened and no wood (if it is wooden) is sticking out with the capability to scratch your eye. Oh and I didn't mention this but part of the reason for tightlining is to make the lashes look fuller and more voluminous, if that makes sense... :)

I do it with a creamy eyeliner pencil. It helps for everyday when I don't want to bother with eyeliner too much and just add mascara after.
