I never get my nails done professionally, so I'd like to learn. Which is the best, and why? What should I stay away from? Personal input, as well as facts are welcome. :) thank you!

Also, what does a "full set" entail?

I don't know anything about shellac, but I prefer gel nails over acrylics. They are stronger, more natural looking and more flexible. Acrylics break easier and it smella horrific when you get them done. it is so bad they discourage pregnant ladies to get acrylics...

Wow, I didn't know that. Thanks, Maxime. :)
I heard something about gel lets the nails breathe, and acrylics trap water underneath and wreck your natural nail. Anyone know anything about that?

I get acrylics all the time and have no problem with them. Mu natural nails grow quickly so I'm constantly getting fills. When I take them off, my nails are weak but I just file them down and put a strong top coat over to help strengthen. Without acrylics, I bite my nails and they are super short because of my habit. That's why I get acrylics done.
Gel is just a special top coat that can go over your natural nails or even acrylics. They make the nail polish last longer.
A full set means regular plain avrylics. No french tip. No glitter. Just clear tips and white acrylic powder. They let you pick a polish to go over.
I've never had a problem with "trapling water underneath" my avrylics and wrecking my natural nails. Lol. Never even heard of that.

Question: if I ask for tips, could they do shellac or polish over them? or would that be too weak and break?

When I get gels taken off I always have dips in my nail bed lol.

I was just asking bc I hate how thick the gel is. There's so much I can't do! I just didn't know if the other substances would be thinner without breaking easily.

By "gel", I mean the acrylic they use, lol
