A good way to accomplish this is a face mask! There's plenty at the store you can buy, but here's a D.I.Y recipe I use that actually helps.
The mask uses: honey, turmeric powder, cinnamon, and nutmeg, lemon juice is optional. Simply mix into a paste and leave on for at least 20-30 min.
It's a gradual fading, but you see results every time! At least, for me it does.
But be careful! The mask does burn some people's skin, and Turmeric has been known to stain skin temporarily, so test on a small area before your whole face.
