Whenever I put on full makeup, like foundations, concealer, shadow, liner, the lot, I feel gross and cakey. Is there any way to feel like I'm not wearing makeup when I am?

Well, many things make makeup feel cakey. you could be applying too much. that's one of the main reasons makeup can feel cakey.
I would also try adding a primer so that creates a bit of a barrier between your skin & the makeup. you could also be using the wrong makeup for your skin type, or using makeup that doesn't mesh well together.
what skin type are you?
what foundation are you using?

I use cover girl foundation, and if I were to describe the foundation it'd be that it's extremely thick. But I really don't use a lot, I use a beauty blender and apply it. I have dry skin, but I use moisturizer and primer before foundation.

I would recommend a BB or CC cream. Think of BB cream as a skincare cream that covers with med-full coverage. While CC cream is usually used to even out skintone and brighten for older or sallow skintone with a sheer-med coverage. I havent found a good CC cream in America yet but I do enjoy the Almay color changing foundation. I found that it brightens, looks natural with light coverage, and it feels light on the skin. You could also try any foundations that are labeled as "water based" or "hydrating" like the aqua lumier foundation. The naked foundation by relvon is good too for medium coverage if you don't have oily skin. (Mine cakes like crazy on oily skin) :]

Water based foundation will help a lot, I used to have that problem. if you wear concealer under your eyes then you might want to try liquid if you haven't already. Stippling, buffer, and kabuki brushes work great for foundation and powder. ( I use a beauty blender to apply my foundation and it works like a dream as well). Finally your foundation could be too dark or orangey. Just a few reasons. Sorry for the length of this, but I hope this helps! (:

I don't use powder in the winter I feel like it just makes me extra cakey.

Kabuki brushes are more for powder but I've seen some people make them workable for foundation.

If you set if with powder the powder might give too much coverage and make your makeup feel cakey try a translucent powder if not try a liquid light foundation maybe loreals liquid to powder (I can't remember what it's called the bottle is purple though) or Revlons naked skin.

Also make sure your skin is moisturized! It's the basis for natural looking makeup.

@Claire, That foundation is probably a full coverage foundation. they can definitely feel thick & cakey. I would look for a foundation with less coverage.
do you set your foundation with a setting/finishing powder? if you don't set liquid foundations with a powder, it melts, moves around, & ultimately sinks into your pores & fine lines, giving that cakey gross feeling.

You are probably applying way too much. I'd go for a lighter foundation, maybe a bb cream n no powder if you feel it's cakey.

You might also like to try a setting spray to lessen the matte, chalky type finish.

I agree with everything everyone has said but you could just not like the feeling of makeup on your skin, if so, I'm the same way. A thin layer of a bb cream feels uncomfortable and heavy to me. The only thing I can recommend is to have a more matte finish, I've noticed with myself that dewy skin makes my face feel more icky haha.

Or maybe even a mousse type formula?

Go with a bb cream or a light weight foundation with a primer included. Then use a cream blush, and organic bronzer. Use a brow gel, and if you need one, a mascara. If you want eyeshadow, try a cream. Set with a spray, powder can make your face feel heavy, and "gross". I hope this helped, XOXO!

I hate to say this but honestly it's probably that makeup that's making you feel that way it's cheap and full of pore clogging ingredients - if you don't like the feel then change to a different makeup - like these beauties suggested a bb cream or water based foundation are best and don't feel so heavy - you could also do powder instead of liquid as well.

^^^^Your makeup is making you feel this way. It's not about setting with a powder, either. It's the foundation itself. It's probably not letting your skin breathe.
I stand by spending some money on your foundation. You will need less product, get better results, and the product feels much better.
The only other thing to address is how you apply. I use UD Optical Blurring Brush, it's awesome and blends foundation onto your face beautifully. There's a bunch of other brands of brush the point being it uses less product this way and helps blend it better.

It's not cheap but I absolutely loving the Dior airflash foundation. It feels like my real face and isn't wet or oily or anything. Love!!
