Hello Everyone. I love to line above the lash line but I don't have the steadiest hand. Can you post your favorite creme eyeliners and favorite brushes to get the job done? Also if you have tips on how to apply eyeliner that would be greatly appreciated as well.

Start from the middle of your lid and work your way to the end with the first amount of product you use... once that's done, you can line from the inside corner of your eye to the center where you first started. You don't have to do it all in one full sweep. It's best to do it in sections! =)

I personally like MAC's fluidline in Blacktrack. There are 3 types of lining brushes that I know of:

1.) Angled liner brush: a flat brush cut at an angle to apply with. I found this the easiest to start with, but this is subjective depending on the type of tool you prefer. They have different types of brushes that come in a range of thicknesses and fibers. Synthetic should always be used near the eyes though - just to keep it hygenic. My favorites are the MAC 263 and Ecotools' angled liner brush. These make it extremely easy to make a cat-eye w/ a flick of the brush!

2.) Pointed liner brush: a round, thin and tapered brush that can be used like a pencil. Reminiscent of the brush you apply liquid liner with. Great for those that like extremely thin lines. I really like the Louise Young LY25 for this.

3.) Angled pointed liner brush: essentially a pointed liner brush, but the ferrule is angled so you can see what you are doing easier. The brush looks like a "7" and many people say this is easy to use as well. Sonia Kashuk makes a great one that is affordable.

The only way you can really figure out which works best for you is if you try it for yourself. Application always takes practice to develop your technique, so have fun with it! I have all 3, and I've found I prefer the pointed brush and the angled brush.

Hope this helps!

I really love the Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner. It was my first eyeliner ever! I started lining my eyes in high school! The best eyeliner brush for beginner is by far the Sonia Kashuk Bent Eyeliner brush! At $5, it's a no brainer! If you're looking for more of a script type brush, deff check out Michaels craft/artist brushes. They're easy to use! There is no need to dish out the money for expensive brushes when you're just a beginner. Trust me, I'm a freelance make up artist, and I still reach for my Michaels brushes from time to time when I'm working w/ clients! Hope this helped!

You can get it here or at Target! (bent eyeliner brush)

@Soma thank you so much!!! I was using the super thin elf angled eyeliner brush but I just needed to use a regular angled eyeliner brush and apply your technique. It came out amazing.

@Nu Nu Dollie I'm trying to get into designing looks so I will look into those brushes. I also talked to a Bobbi Brown rep this weekend and she told me that the gel eyeliner is there top selling product! I'm working on getting the Bobbi Brown from Beginner to Pro Makeup book later on  =)

I actually use Elf's Concealer brush the 1$ one for my eyeliner! I LOVE elf's cream eyeliner! I can NOT for the life of me apply liquid liner, I just can not get a straight line, it goes everywhere! :)

but I can use gel or cream liner without a problem, I just find that the Elf concealer brush works great! I can't use angled brushes.

Just my tip! :)

I use Maybelline Eye Studio Gel Liner, and it comes with a brush, some people love it but I don't like it to much I find it is not as stiff as I want it to be. I like to use a Bare Minerals Line Diffuser Brush with it.

I find it easier to start with the wing first and then connect making a line above the lash line, or if no wing just starting in the middle toward the end and go to the outer corner then work on the inner corner last.

Glad to have been able to help, Whitney! I remember when I first learned how to use my gel liner, I couldn't understand for the LIFE of me how people lined their eyes so easily with a brush! It wasn't until I saw so many other gurus posting videos where it finally struck me to do it in small sections... so I completely understood your frustration.  =P

I don't know if this will make a difference, but I actually just did a post called Battle of the eyeliners, I compared the maybelline eye studio with Elf's eyeliner. I have both and use both, so I think it may help you with deciding which eyeliner to choose. I prefer Elf's, I have some pictures and stuff.

You can check it out here if you want:

I looooooove Smashbox cream liners - I think they still have the mini-palette with 6 colors available too, so you can try them out.

If you wanna spend though, Serge Lutens cream liner is pretty amazing. It doesn't budge at all, and it's great for doing your waterline.

I use a tiny angled brush that a friend brought back from Egypt for me; no idea what brand.
