hey everybody- i few hours ago i was called by casal aveda to go to their school - i personally am more interested in makeup and not hair. i have heard you dont need much of a school background to become a freelancer or start behind a counter- im on the fence basically- is it something that i should invest money into? - i know investing my time in a beauty school will never be regretted, i have plenty of time. but the money? dont have too much of that stuff... do i need a piece of paper saying that i graduated from a beauty school to "go places" or what? so basically, should i go or should i not?

If I had the chance I'd go in a heartbeat cause then it would help me know how to apply makeup just right, just follow your heart cause all older women would already fawn over your perfect face. Go to school or apply at some store and see if you are ready.

I am the same way as you, I'm more interested in makeup than hair. I had a choice of going to Paul Mitchell the school but It was soooo expensive. I decided to go to Cosmetology school at a community college. It was way way more cheaper and I could get a feel of everything in cosmetology. I was also thinking I could later go to makeup classes and schools to get a little more exposure. But just go with what feels right with you! And good luck!

I can totally relate to Terra, I love hair and makeup but I am more so interested in makeup and I went to cosmetology school and I hated it and ended up dropping out the 3rd week. Beauty school is mainly hair, skin and nails. There is very little makeup involved, if you know you are primarily interested in makeup and you do not want to be a hairstylist, don't invest your money in it. Cosmetology school can be super expensive and I would suggest only going if you are truly really interested in doing hair, because that's the main focus, as well as nails and skin.

thank you so much guys for your input! Elizabeth you are soo sweet!
hearing everyone's thoughts on the whole matter, i can i can agree with everyone. so casal's they have 2 different classes: 1 being Cosmetology which is the whole thing: hair, makeup, nails and the like. the 2nd class is Esthiology which is makeup, skin care, and eyebrows.
like i did say before im interested in the esthiology (makeup) but like Andrew mentioned, you might wanna know it all. if your called to do a job they probably are looking for someone with both makeup and hair experience, yah no?
anyways they do have a scholarship contest (for both classes) and the winner of the contest gets to go to the class on a full scholarship meaning I pay $00,000 to go to school. (you read that right, just trying to be funny- haha) for the esthiology u are required to do evening glamour look. the cosmos need to do hair, makeup, and even the clothes so there is a fashion layer with the cosmo. class which tells me that that may be a better route.
so i suppose i will enter into both contest's, hope for the best and if it meant to be then it will be - casal's is one expensive place to call your school so if i dont get the scholarship, then i know my time will come one day and i know i cannot pay out wazoo so wish me luck!
any ideas or inspiration anyone can offer me?
