I know it sounds gross! But i am starting a No Shampoo Challenge. Basically im not going to use shampoo in my hair for 1 WHOLE MONTH! i used to wah my hair once a week with shampoo but now i am just going to do that with conditioner for 1 month. I am going to see the results and see if it helps to keep my hair healthy because i am on a hair journey. I have waist length hair but would love it to be kind of below my butt. So if anyone has questions, would like to do the challenge, or would like me to do a video on it please respond.

I dont know if it makes hair grow faster or not. But will make your hair healthier which makes the hair retain more length and possibly grow longer!(:

I just started just washing my hair with just conditioner cause it's the best way I can get my hair to be soft since sometimes shampoos after my hair is completely dry it leaves my hair feeling either stripped or not as soft as it can be

Good luck in your challenge, My scalp could not take this challenge. I have a hereditary rash that makes me have to wash it more often that I wish I had to, any who if you use an all natural product that does not contain a whole lot of sulfates and chemicals that can prove to be harmful to your hair and scalp. Most shampoos have ingredients that strip all of the natural oils in your hair which is not a good thing. Take the time to find a product that will work for you, sounds like you could stand to use a cream style rinse on your hair and would do really well. make sure to keep us updated, i am looking forward to seeing how your 30 day journey turns out.

Isn't that unhygienic? To me it sounds like the equivalent of washing your body with lotion instead of soap. I don't know...I have oily hair so I think it would be impossible for me to do this.

I'm on day 16 without shampooing...and no, it's not unhygienic; so long as you're wetting down every couple of days and massaging the scalp vigorously. Water and friction are sufficient to clean the skin - unless you're living in a third world country or on Survivor =)

You can do it, honey! It's really not horrible at all - infact, my hair feels thicker and my curls are springier. It's pretty awesome!

I would never have guessed that this could be any good for the hair, but it sounds like a good idea! Like most people I wash my hair way more than I need to, and that is probably a reason why my hair gets so oily as it does. So if anyone could come with tips that would make this work for oily hair as well that would be awesome! :)

Before I switched to just washing my hair about 1-2 times a week I had oily hair. Traditional shampoo washes your hair's natural oils away and in turn the hair over produces oil to compensate.
Try using Hair One clensing conditioner. You can get it for about $12 at Sally's.

@Lisa and Ida - you can clarify your hair with vinegar every couple of days to get rid of the oil. Follow up with a water-based conditioner. You can also use a dry shampoo at night if you wake up oily. It really helps!

I certainly can't go a month; but I agree with the general consensus. When I started dyeing my hair red, my hairdresser told me to stop shampooing everyday and that in fact, she only shampoos once a week or two. I also have oily hair but your scalp will adjust in time to not being stripped of moisture everyday. after a week of not shampooing everyday, you will produce less oil naturally. I wash my hair every 2 to 3 days especially right after i get it dyed. I use dry shampoos in the meantime or style it up when it gets harder to work with.
I don't cleanse with a conditioner but I use a sulfate free shampoo alternating with a red enhancing shampoo. I can tell you that I used to have tons of split ends and now it's rare that I have them at all. Not shampooing keeps your hair healthier and saves your color if you dye.

Courtney C. ~ I used to be the same way about shampooing my hair everyday about a year ago, but before I started this challenge I only shampooed my hair once a week and my hair felt so much healthier. Thats my goal for this whole challenge. I am trying to get healthier hair and if this works then i might go completely shampoo free and just use baking soda or vineger when i need to clarify my hair.(:

@Courtney - YES! Color fades, especially red (I'm a redhead too!). I have a friend who's also red, and she's a bit of a kitchen chemist as well - she maintains her color with a mix of reduced beet pulp and regular conditioner. I haven't tried it, just because beet is a cool-based red color, and I'm more on the warm side. But her hair ALWAYS looks fab.
