So I've been researching parabens being in cosmetics and how they are being linked to cancer. They have not been shown to cause cancer but they are definitely related. I'm thinking about starting to go paraben-free. What are your thoughts on parabens?

It's great that you're thinking of going paraben-free. But if you think about it, there are a MILLION other ingredients that can be linked to cancer as well. If you're going to avoid parabens, what about triclosan? GMOs, pthalates, sulfates, aluminum, propylene glycol, etc.?
I would love to avoid all these ingredients as well, it's just really hard to find makeup or skincare lines that do that. Unfortunately for us the FDA really doesn't regulate too much of these ingredients. We can only do so much, eh?

I just purchased Tarte's "Glow Your Way To Gorgeous" set, and it's my first few pieces of makeup without parabens [Tarte's company philosophy is to formulate w/o the nasty stuff], and I have to say it's fantastic quality! It's ranked right up there with my beloved MUFE, and I'm tempted to try their foundations since their concealer is the best by far I've tried!
I especially love their blushes, cream shadows and lip products. Their lipsurgence lipsticks are so hydrating! Blushes are super pigmented and famous on their own. The brushes in the set are actually WELL-MADE vs. the MAC holiday sets, and their Park Avenue Princess bronzer is fantastic! I can't rave much more about this brand than I have been already...
I seriously didn't think much of them due to their cheap packaging for their blushes, but after trying this set, I'm now a definite Tarte fan for life. =)
These are formulated w/o: mineral oil, parabens, phthalates, sodium lauryl sulfate, and synthetic fragrances. I still have products w/ parabens in it since I'm so attached to them, but Tarte is definitely an easy way for me to ween myself off those products w/o knowing it because they're so awesome!

Steff- I definitely agree that their are so many things that are unavoidable in cosmetics. This is really a shame. I think decreasing the amount of paraben products used will definitely be a step forward though! :)
Soma- I've heard some amazing things about Tarte but have never really tried them. I'm so glad you raved about them because now I want to go pick some things up! :D

Hey Sarah! I posted a topic about paraben free products about a week ago.
http://www.beautylish.com/t/vcqmv/paraben-free
I've been thinking about going paraben free for awhile now, but then I think about how expensive everything is and how upset I would be to throw away nearly everything in my collection. Haha. I'm thinking I might just gradually try to accumulate more natural, safe products as time goes on, and when I run out of the things I have that include parabens and all those other bad things that Steff listed I won't purchase them again.
It's just hard for me because everytime I pick something up and read the ingredients, there are parabens or pthalates or something else just as bad. And a lot of people will tell you that the studies linking parabens to cancer aren't completely factual....or that it doesn't matter because anything could cause cancer....It's just a lot to consider!

Sarah K. - definitely pick some up! QVC actually has the BEST starter/seasonal set deal going on right now: http://www.qvc.com/qic/qvcapp.aspx/view.2/app.detail/params.CM_SCID.coll.item.A217165.desc.tarte-Glow-Your-Way-To-Gorgeous-8pc-Maracuja-Clay-Collection
For under $60, you get ALL full-sized products listed in on the site, and 2 deluxe samples which are huge on their own that aren't listed. [One blush is already $25-27 on it's own!] They are the Maracuja Oil and their bronzer in Park Avenue Princess, which is already getting a fast cult following. QVC has the exclusive launch of their Maracuja Concealer until a few more months before Sephora and other retailers start carrying it. Sephora has a Tarte set right now as well for $39 I think, but you get WAY LESS, and it's a shimmer set geared towards those that like it. The QVC set is just the perfect in-between for fans of keeping a good balance between shimmer and matte. =)
If you want to see a review, I have it posted here: http://www.kabukivoodoo.com/2011/07/tartes-glow-your-way-to-gorgeous-just.html
