Has anyone noticed they've broken out from a particular makeup brush they were using?
My skin was starting to clear up again, but I noticed that I started breaking out a little where I typically apply bronzer, the C motion.. I was using the MAC 134 brush and NYC Sunny Bronzer. I washed the brush down & wiped the first layer of bronzer off..
The bronzer wasn't breaking me out because I continue to use it. Is it weird that a brush can break you out?
BTW, I've had the 134 brush for years & wash it numerous times.

Maybe its time to replace the brush. I know that I spray my brushes down with 99% alcohol because I don't have brush covers on them and I don't want anything nestling in them even though I wash them weekly and use the ELF daily cleanser on them. I may just be anal but it sounds like their could be something on the brush that is causing you to break out especially if this just started happening

I agree with the previous posters. Better safe than sorry! I would get rid of the brush. You would't want to have a worse reaction than the one you're already having. Good luck!

That is strange, but anything is possible.
Have you used the brush with anything new lately? Have you ever done a deep cleanse with oil? It's amazing what will come out of a 'clean' brush with a bit of olive oil. I'd try a few more cleaning alternatives before tossing it.

Try getting a new brush and applying it with that for a while. if it's still breaking you out, maybe you've developed a reaction to the bronzer. if not, then it may be the brush.:/

I had that issue a while back... I found out it was the bronzer product I was using, and the brush was just too scratchy on my skin. I stopped using the bronzer and washed/conditioned my brush until it was soft again...
Brush is still usable to me, but I was able to definitely single out my MAC Harmony for being the cause for my reachtion, since that was the only area in which I broke out. I had to change it up, even though I loved Harmony to pieces. =/

This happened to me a couple of years ago. I found out that I had suddenly developed an allergy to goat hair brushed. Once I switch the type of brush I was using my face cleared up.
Like the other posters have said it could just need a deep cleansing. Try that first. Good Luck!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I have deep cleaned the brush & everything else. I really don't want to toss the brush because my ex bought it for me & I'd feel bad throwing it out, plus it's a MAC brush! :) I'm trying out other bronzers to see if NYC was causing my breakouts.. But not sure. Thanks so much again everyone :)

Have you ever tried actually disinfecting the brush with alcohol?

As previous Beauties said, it might be time to replace. As much as we like to think when we "deep clean" our brushes, there still is traces of bacteria on them. How long have you had it? If you absolutely can't throw it away, try using 1 part vinegar, two parts water to cleanse and DISINFECT the brush. Also, try out different bronzers. I love NYC but I try to test different products. Try the Rimmel bronzer. They're pretty good as well! Good luck. :)

Are you sure it is not your cell phone, or that you are sleeping on your hand? I was breaking out where normal people would put bronzer or contour, but I do not use either. One day I noticed that almost all of my acne was under were I held the phone. Phones are soooo gross. When I was younger I slept with my hand under my face and that also caused a break out. If you have never had the problem before and now you are even after you washed it, then my guess would be that the brush is not the problem.

I've tried most of that. It's been a while since I've "properly" cleaned my brush because I've been busy traveling a lot recently.
No it's not from my cell phone because like I mentioned, it's only in the areas where I apply my bronzer.
Thanks so much again everyone

If you have had the brush for a couple years then it is deffinitly time to replace it. Bacteria can still build up at the base where you can't get to with regular cleanings.

Soak it in alcohol, let it air dry and it should be fine...
of course there is the probability that your skin is either too sensitive or just a reaction to the stuff there is in the brush.
I break out too, but that's normal to me, this time of the year, I mean too hot and sweat is a non pleasin thing for my skin you know.
But try out to clean it deep cuz there might the problem.
