Hi everyone! So I have a topic that I cannot help but ask you guys what your thoughts are!
I just finished writing a blog post about how expensive cosmetics can be depending on whether I'm in Australia or America! Has anyone else noticed this while travelling perhaps? How much do you pay for these things where you live?
Have a look and let me know!  :)

Here in Canada everything costs a few dollars more than in the United States. That was all fine when our dollar was worth less than the US dollar, but they've been relatively equal for a few years now so it's getting kind of frustrating. Especially with MAC since it's a Canadian company based in Toronto! Ugh.

Yes, yes, YES! I honestly cannot describe how annoying it is. Maybelline The Falsies mascara costs $28 (for a DRUGSTORE mascara!!!) and single MAC eyeshadows are $28 as well, just to give a few examples. It is absolutely ridiculous! Same goes for skincare as well... ughhh it's REALLY frustrating, especially since I'm originally from the US so I now what the prices are supposed to be. :/ I'm from Israel btw

I wonder why MAC is more expensive in Canada than it is in the US if it's a Canada based brand. O.o

Andrea I always wondered that myself. Usually it's the other way around. O.o

MAC was purchased by Estee Lauder and now is marketed primarily as an American brand VS. being Canadian. =)

The same thing goes for imported stuff... I remember when I studied abroad in Istanbul, I asked them for their best beer - and they handed me a Corona [WAY OVERPRICED]! They looked at me CRAZY when I said I preferred their cheaper domestic beer [EFES] and told them Corona was cheapie beer in the states.

I'm AMAZED Mabelline Falsies can fetch that high of a price though... that's one hell of a mark-up!

I used to live in Dubai and things would have a crazy mark up. My mom and I would buy all our make-up (and my dad all his booze) in Duty Free at the airport on the way home. That was the only way to avoid the outrageous markup! I can't imagine paying $25+ for maybelline mascara!

Even here in America San Francisco to be exact l'oreal mascara can be $12.99 at walgreens. I got my old hip color truth liners for $13.99 which was outrageous for the price being a drugstore product.

i live in australia and the prices of cosmetics is pretty unbelieveable its sooo expensive, 1 MAC eyeshadow is $32! thats such a rip off to me and considering the australian dollar is better then the american dollar lately it blows my mind! our "drugstore" products are considered higher end products because of how expensive they are revlon photo ready is $36 and MAC studio fix is $48, i watch youtube videos of people discussing how certain products were soo expensive at like $15 for a mascara or something when in aus thats cheap! drives me crazy how lucky americans have it! im so jealous! and we dont have a sephora or drugstores or wallmarts and we dont have brands like urban decay, makeup for ever, elf, hardcandy, and its so difficult to find to buy online.

Makeup in drug stores (CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid, etc) are always higher than buying it in Walmart or Target. That's why I only buy from drug stores during a bogo sale. I usually stick to buying from Walmart & Target any other time.

Over here in Asia, American brands are equally as pricey! Maybelline, Revlon, L'Oreal and Rimmel are okay because I think they have manufacturing plants in China or something. But the higher end stuff like Dior, Chanel, Givenchy etc are at cut-throat prices.

Oddly enough, Asian brands like Shiseido, SK II, Kose etc are also rather expensive here. Almost on par with the high end American ones, if not for a couple of dollars of difference.
