I was filming with a Sony DCR-SX65 Handycam Camcorder until my boyfriend surprised me with helping me splurge and buy a Canon Rebel T3i last month. I'm still getting used to it, which is why I haven't uploaded anything in two weeks since I'm learning it's settings and things, but I did like my Sony camcorder, it was just a little blurry when filming. The pictures were decent quality too. If I were to get another Sony Camcorder I would definitely go for one of the newer models that specifically says HD on it.
Also, I have to say that he helped me buy the Canon because I also love to take photos all the time and am kind of a photography enthusiast. I have been looking into taking classes for some time and I'm jokingly known as the family's paparazzi girl. I really do take pictures of everything, so I've been wanting a good quality camera. I didn't just get it to make better YT videos, that would just be nuts if you get disappointed and quit, so I definitely try starting on a low budget for that.
I'd recommend a Sony Cybershot if you want a point and click that will shoot good quality videos as well as taking nice photographs. I loved mine until one of my nephews dropped and broke it. I've also heard good things about Nikon point and click cameras too.
Hope those suggestions help!

I have a Canon Rebel T3i as well, it's absolutely amazing.. the quality of those videos is beyond amazing and it takes gorgeous photo's as well. The camera I use most of the time is a JVC HD Camcorder, I like it.. but the quality is no where near the Rebel's. Another camera I use is an older model Canon Powershot SX220 HS, which takes great photos and videos as well. I always say buy Canon products, they are seriously the best, it's all I buy (with the exception of the camcorder) they last forever and they are great quality

I film with a flip HD it is great for starting out! It does not have auto focus that is the only thing I do not like about it! But it doesn't really hinder the quality all that much you just have to get used to not holding things close to the camera! And it is relatively inexpensive! But they are out of production now so if you decide to go with this camera get it ASAP! my mom has the Sony Bloggie it is similar to the flip but has auto focus I am not a fan of the bloggie though! the audio is really muffly! but for pictures I love my Canon EOS Rebel XS DSLR camera:)
