Nail Q&A

@April- wow!! I've never heard of that before. I dont blame you for being sad about it, I dont understand, I wonder if its from the Seche Vite? You said you didn't have this problem before you started using it, right? I just started using it a month ago.
Have you tried looking that up on google? Im gonna google it bc Im worried too!

Sally Hansen's Anti-Chip is my favorite top coat! I've been using it for a few years and have never had any problems. So hopefully that helps. Let me know if it happens again or not.
Oh btw, Im following your blog :) Stay in touch and I hope your nails go back to normal :)

@April I had the same problem with Seche Vite, so I stopped using it. It would definitely dry fast, but I would have my freshly painted manicure for about a day and a half.

I've always had shrinkage from SV, but I make sure I wrap my tips, and don't get the tip shrinkage, I still get shrinkage at the cuticles and the side, but since I change my polish everyday, it doesn't bother me.

@Kelly -- It's ridic. And totally embarassing. So far, the anti-chip is working well. I work in the medical field so constant hand washing, gloves, etc. are required so I hope this baby toughs it out with me! But isn't that bonkers?!

@Jasmine -- Darn that Seche Vite. That shine is irreplaceable but a goodbye is in order here!

For me it was the Seche Vite. It happened again with the Mega Shine--so I think the problem for me is thicker top coats. Base coat didn't change anything. Anti-Chip seems to be the happy medium offering great shine and lasting power.

I have the same peeling & shrinkage problem with Seche Vite and some of the other top coats I've tried. Even after buffering I have that problem. I'm going to try the Sally Hansen No-Chip one and see if it works. If not, then I think I'm just going to switch to a clear polish to put over the top and see if that works. My mom used to be a cosmetologist and told me that applying polish in thin coats is best, allowing them to dry fully between applications. Hopefully it works...I get tired of my pretty manis and nail art going to waste after just one day =(

If you apply Seche Vite in too thin of a coat it will shrink.. I had this problem for a while when I was running out of it and was using it sparingly. Try to cover the nail evenly and not too thin. Also maybe try a sticky base coat? Hope that helps..

I have applied SV in different thicknesses. It didn't help at all. I also have tried different consistency base coats--and nada.

Oh well--I'm actually really liking the Anti-Chip Top Coat for now. Goes on great!

OMG guys!!!!!!! I love Seche Vite but if you all are experiencing these problems from it, Im scared its going to happen to me. I bought it about 2 months ago and do my nails once a week. So I've been using just the dry fast top coat but every week. I wonder if that's gonna happen to my nails and I wonder what weird kinda of ingredients are in this polish!?!

I think it is user dependent. It has happened to many people but there are also a lot of people who have not had this problem--so I wouldn't worry so much unless it happens. If you start noticing missing nails--you know the culprit!

If you are having problems with SV, and your nails are long enough, I encourage you to try wrapping your tips. I always had shrinkage with SV till I started wrapping my tips.

It's probably because you guys need to thin your SV out. They sell special thinner for the SV at like, Sally's and stuff. It's not normal nail polish thinner, it's especially for SV. I think it's because they know there's something wonky with their formula, but they don't want people to waste money... or something. >.<

Well, that's just bananas.

SV--I quit you.

I love Seche Vite, I hope Im one of the people it doesn't happen to, but knowing my luck that wont be the case lol. I wonder what type of ingredient is in there that does this. Hmm....

How do you guys keep your nail polishes organized? I have them in 2 plastic boxes. But I hate it bc first off, these boxes dont fit in any of my drawers and second, I wanna be able to see all the colors I have when Im deciding on which colors to use. I've bought the same exact nail polish & color before bc I forgot I had it.
So I started looking on YouTube for nail polish racks and a few girls made there own with foam board. So I tried this but for some reason I kept screwing up so then I saw a video with a girl who made one out of just Popsicle sticks!! At first I thought there was no way that could work, but after watching it I wanted to try. It actually is a good idea, and its sturdy too. I finished making it so now I just want to decorate it a little.
I think I used about 500 Popsicles but it cost me under $5 to make. I know, you guys are probably thinking it sounds crazy! lol.
Do you guys have nail racks or how do you store your collection?

I have my polish collection stored in two "melmers". I need a third though, as my 500 plus collection is quite a bit crammed!

@Kelly C. I want pictures of this popsicle stick polish holder!

I store mine in a vintage wooden suit case. I am out of room and have many in one of my makeup bags. Eep.

In case anyone wants to check out my ridiculously long nail care post. I've been getting lots of questions asking about what I use for my nails.

http://glitterandunicorns-angiebee.blogspot.com/2012/01/nail-care-angie-edition.html

@ Alexis Do you have a bad reaction to most nail polish removers? I usually just use any brand with acetone. Maybe your nails are allergic to one of the ingredients they use?

@ April
I will def post pictures as soon as Im done decorating it. Ive been procrastinating lately but I really wanna finish it
