Hey everyone,
firstly, I'm new to beautylish and everyone has been so nice so thanks! Second, I have very oily and acne-prone skin. I have been using Neutrogena's skin clearing foundation but I don't feel like it matches me very well. I was thinking of trying out Laura Mercier's silk creme foundation...any thoughts or recommendations as to what I should try? I am also struggling with how to apply it. Sometimes I use my fingers (clean of course!) and sometimes I use a sponge...please help! Thanks!

Welcome Kiki S. The sponge will eat up a lot of product so clean hands is much better. LM may be a bit rich for your skin even though it is oil free. I have oily skin as well that is prone to a breakout from time to time and I usually rely on Bobbi Brown's Natural Finish Long Lasting Foundation SPF 15 during the summer when my skin is a swimming pool of oil and the her foundation stick in the winter when it turns into a sahara desert. Use about a half a dime size of foundation starting in my t-zone and then just blending it out from there with a foundation brush. Or you can use the sponge to buff it out if you don't have a foundation brush....just don't apply foundation directly on the sponge because you waste a lot of product that way. I hope this helps you out some. :)

Kiki S. The sponge will work if you wet it first. Once wet the sponge will expand in size, then squeeze the excess water out. The water helps the foundation spread easier on your face and helps the sponge not soak up all the foundation. I also use a stippling brush or even Elf's flat powder brush for $3.

The laura mercier silk creme is an amazing foundation. It's definitely thicker in consistency but if it is applied the right way it spreads very far is is thinned out a lot on the skin. It really is applied best with a sponge (or fingers) because of the thickness of the product. And with this particular fdtn I don't feel like the sponge absorbs TOO much product.

Kiki S. I have oily skin as well and I think the Laura Mercier foundation is absolutley amazing, its one of my favorites for full coverage. I apply this using my fingers, because of the thicker consistensy. If you were to use a brush any flat kabuki brush would work just fine. I also reccommend using a damp beautyblender sponge as well.

You should definitely try Laura Mercier but sometimes you might have to mix two foundation shades together to get a good match. A sponge is best when it's damp because it will soak up most of the foundation if you're using it dry. You end up wasting more product.
