I am attending The Makeup Show LA for the first time this year. I will be attending both days. I was wondering if anyone on Beautylish is attending and what they are most excited for? Do any seasoned professionals have any advice for a makeup show rookie? I have attended numerous Hair Stylist conventions but never a pro-only makeup show. Maybe we can attend a class together?

Hi Kayla!
I will be attending The Makeup Show too. This is my first year going as well. Sorry I don't have any tips for the show, but I'm super excited. I can't wait! Maybe we'll run into each other. :)

@Alexandra- That would be great if we ran into eachother! Are you going both days?
@Jaclyn- No IMATS is in June. The Hair and Makeup Show LA is March 17th and 18th and is not open to the public at all. It has a lot of really great guest speakers and you can even take two different hands on classes the Friday before the show. Check it out- http://www.themakeupshow.com/makeupshow/LA/index.html

I am thinking about going to the makeup show. I don't have a tear sheet or most of the credentials they require. I only have MAC Pro and a business card. I wonder if they honor those when I present them. I don't want to waste money. Anyway, I have only attended IMATS and it is chaos, it wasn't as popular as it was before the rise of youtube. Professionals and afficionados battling for show deals. Even if the makeup show is a PRO event, it will still be packed so I would research the list of exhibitors, decide what products you would like to purchase (look for reviews online too) and print out the floor plan. I also created a list of whom I would visit first, the items I want to buy and their booth number. It helps you prioritize your time on things you are sure you want to get. Once everything on your list is done, you can spend time exploring other things. I hope this helps!

Hey All! As a member of The Makeup Show Team, I just wanted to share some insight about the show. The Makeup Show is for industry insiders - so all those who work within the beauty industry from makeup artists and hairstylists to agents, buyers and those on the retail side are welcome! Its made by industry pros for the pros, so we have everything from pro lines exhibiting to networking opportunities, education seminars/keynotes and hands-on workshops. Many of our attendees are freelancers - so a BUISINESS CARD is more than enough- and great for the networking aspect of the show! hope to see all of you there. Our line up is really strong this year - we can't wait :)

all updates are listed here and on facebook: http://www.themakeupshow.com/makeupshow/LA/index.html

Thank you so much Eve for the information! I have a question that I hope you wont mind answering. What information do I need to bring to sign up for a Pro Card at the different vendor booths? I know Smashbox has a list of required items on their website but I was wondering if you could tell me what I really need to bring? Resume, License, business cards, ect. I can't wait for your guest speakers and lectures! Would you recommend any of your Friday classes for someone who is not exactly new to the business but always likes additional training? Or is there a Saturday/Sunday class you think will be amazing?

Hi Kayla - I would recommend following what Smashbox asks of you to bring if you would like to sign up with them. But by just being at the show you will receive pro discounts on ALL products from all the brands/exhibitors (40 to 70% off) so no proof needs to be shown once your inside the event. For entry into our show - a business card is substantial.

So glad to hear that you're excited for all of our education! we have so much going on this year. Are you referring to the seminars or hands-on workshops? You can come and go from the keynotes & seminars - so I recommend checking all and any of them out that spark your interest - there's no reason not to take advantage. Regarding the workshops - I highly recommend them for artists at all levels in the industry- these are opportunities for you to expand your skill set with top names in the industry. We have 3 levels that you can place yourself in. I would say checking out the "fundamentals" classes as someone just starting out would fit you perfectly. for workshops go to: http://themakeupshow.com/makeupshow/LA/hands_on.html you can also email sophia@metropolitanevents.com with question & to sign up
