MUFE HD Foundation Shade Problems!

Hey girls and boys,

I recently just gave into the hype and got MUFE HD Foundation. I got matched to 155 and I wear Face and Body in shade 34/32 depending on the day. ON the higher planes of my face, my skin is naturally light, where on my cheeks and forehead, my skin is darker toned. I normally just get a the lighter foundation and add the color back to those areas with Bronzer.

Before I go back and get the lighter shade, did anyone else find that they were a shade darker than they normally would be with this foundation? Or that it oxidized throughout the day? Because I didn't experience any yesterday, but if it does get darker, it will not match my skin as I am lighter right now. Thanks!

Are you using a the HD primer with it? I find there is very little oxidization when I use the foundation, (almost none) when I use the two. I usually don't like getting shade matched, and always step out into the sunlight to double check the match.

I matched a 173 and it definitely oxidized in about an hour. I looked pale in pictures. I still use it sometimes but only as an undereye concealer.

Hey Soma, I don't really use primer on a regular basis because I don't need it with the face and body. But I did actually use it with Armani Luminous Base earlier and it appeared lighter than normal upon application. My initial concern was mainly how its matched to a NC40 in MAC through different matrixes. Im right now NC35. But what I think is when I applied it before, it may have automatically oxodized, where with the primer it didn't and almost appeared too light. Im olive with redness from sensitivity right now, so I think it's just harder for me to tell what matches and what doesn't. : ) Do you like the HD primer? I use Palladio since its silicone also and does a good job!

Megan, did it really? I think mine automatically did due to the oils in my moisturizer. I normally wait 30 after showering and shaving and moisturizing to prevent my skin from going bezerk. I think in doing that my skin has time to restore sebum and and ph balance which gives the foundation to oxidize to. I just think the color is described inaccurately.

I stand by their HD primer, and love it since it's more of a moisturizer consistency VS a silicone-y consistency... [hated the Smashbox one]

When I first purchased MUFE HD foundation, I didn't like it either. It oxidized too soon, and the texture did not blow me away, which made me sad because when I saw the SA use it on a customer at Sephora, her transformation was literally an Ugly Ducking --> Swan moment with just the application of foundation. When I returned the Smashbox primer and the foundation, I told the SA I felt they both were "meh" and they IMMEDIATELY told me that MUFE products played best within their own line for their foundation/primers. [This was the first time a Sephora SA actually told me something worth listening to!]

That said, I tried the green primer since I had a lot of redness to cover... and it made one crazy difference. I ran out and was given the white HD primer and it worked just as well - and at that time, I did not have a lot of redness to conceal since it was the summer and my skin was fine, so I didn't need the green one. I break out during the cold sometimes, and I do have some remaining pigmentation from old scars, so I still prefer the green primer for the winter when my skin is not in the best shape [which is what I am using again at this point in time].

Also, are you matching based on foundation matrixes, or actual samplings in store? Foundation matrixes are tricky, and although one shade can universally fit another brand's equivalent in foundation, it may or may not be the perfect fit for you. [I know it's really helpful to have, but it's not a 100% guarantee their recommendations will fit you.] I also have two shades for winter/summer - I bounce between 123 [summer/spring] and 125 [winter/fall].

If you find yourself naturally oily and that being the main cause of your oxidation, I know MUFE also has a mattifying primer you can try as well.

Cameron, I wait too. Probably about 20 mins after moisturizing I start doing my makeup. I went up a shade and it was way too dark. I think they're not that accurate too. I usually have no problem finding a good shade in foundation!

Normally I see what Temptalia's recommendation is, and I come in with an idea of what I need. However, I come in fresh faced when it's for foundation purchases because I ALWAYS have them test run it to make sure I get the exact color I need. I too use different shades of the face and body, but they are literally two steps above one another. It's not really the oxidation that bothers me, I don't mind if it oxidizes, but if it does I just kind of wanted to know so I could drop one shade lower, since I don't use mattifying or oil control products. I like my natural oils showing through, and usually will just blot/powder if I really need to at work or etc.

The Armani primer works great with it! I probably don't need it cause I think I was right. It was almost too light for me when I first applied it with the primer, and now an hour later, it matches my skin perfectly, so I think it the first run w/out the primer was the color it will continue to be. I am actually on my way to Sephora right now to check into primer options from MUFE, to see if it would make it look any better. I tried the green one, which did neutralize my redness, but I am already green undertoned so it actually made me look sallow! lol. With the Armani Primer it looks very luminous, and very natural, so I may just stick with it.

Thanks for the info and tips! I really appreciate you! = )

Megan,
Yea, I don't think so either. I came from using MUFE Face and Body and Lancome Teint Miracle which are both pretty sheer foundations that won't make you look ridiculous if you don't get the perfect color. So I haven't ever been completely concerned about the color being exact, because I didn't need to be. But this foundation is MUCH more pigmented and thicker than both, so I have to be really careful or else it will make me look crazy! haha. I really do love the finish it gives though! Great coverage which I need unfortunately right now, and it looks flawless and completely real. The color I got matched too is actually going to be fine I think also. Thanks for your comments! = )

Cameron R. - If you don't want it to be too opaque, but don't want to thin it down with moisturizer, you can always spray your face and brush [w/ a setting spray or thermal water] prior to applying so you can get more time to work it into your skin. I find that helps me lay down the color without it setting too quickly and being so opaque it looks less like skin. =)

Have fun at Sephora! I'm currently hiding from it to save some $ [Valentine's, Anniversary, etc around the corner] so make sure you have fun so I can live vicariously through your purchases!  =P
