There are different treatments for acne. Depending on the grade of acne, there are many things you can do. If you say it's mild but you have some painful spots, you may be suffering from grade 2 acne. With that, you can start on a regular facial routine every 2-3 weeks. That will help with basic extractions, and hydrating of the skin. That will prepare your skin for further treatments while improving the integrity of your overall skin health. Once your skin's health has improved, you can start to do chemical peels that are designed to assist with acne and inflammation. If acne flareups have ceased you can then do micro dermabrasion. A treatment that uses crystals to smooth your skin ( it's like a really intense scrub that removes the top layer of skin, which is usually dead and needs to shed anyway). As far as suggesting any specific treatments is up to your asethetician and the line they use. Skin care lines have different treatments. While taking steps to get it professionally taken care of, you should also try to examine other factors that may cause your acne. Products you have can clog pores, your diet and problems with your digestive system can sometimes affect your skin, medications, etc. I hope this helped, if you want some tips on home care for acne you can check out my blog http://bellakiss-mimi.blogspot.com/ or you can ask me specific questions and I can help you from there. I hope everything works out for you. I too suffer from grade 2 acne, and I know with patience and keeping up with a routine, it can and will get better <3

Most Aveda spas will have a facial specifically for acne prone skin. It's called the Outer Peace facial and everything from the products used down to the massage are for acne prone/congested skin. It was probably the most popular facial I did when I was in school. Hope that helps!

Fantastic advice Michell! Definitely make an appointment for a consultation, bring everything you're using on your face and hair. Have the esthetician review ingredients. Keep a food diary and bring that as well....
FYI: if you can, cut out (or drastically reduce) your intake of salt, milk products, coffee and SUGAR! Basically, all the fun stuff!!! I promise, you will see an improvement sooner than later.....<3

Actually not all facials involve extractions, such as Clarins. You can always address your concerns prior to the session and discuss it over with your beautician.

Like Michell said is depends on the level of if inflammation is present you can't get a microdermabrasion it's not going to help you it will hurt you in the long end causing more lesions. (Lesions is the term we use as Aestheticians for acne) Your esthetician might recommend for you to do a chemical peel instead which will help the skin purge those toxins. In order for that to work you have you have to get it an series and follow the home care directions. You can also try a signature facial and ask your esthetician about high frequency that helps with anti bacterial properties.
