If you want to make your own, you can get cheap pencil tins from the craft store or here: www.dickblick.com - and make your own with adhesive magnets. If you don't want to buy magnets, you can always recycle business card refrigerator magnets if you have them and use the method Nicole H. mentioned.
I use my MAC palettes and my Unii palette to store my goodies, and they serve their function. They are pricey VS the alternative I listed above, but it's sturdier for traveling for me.
Whichever route you choose, have fun with it! I love rearranging my palettes when I add new goodies to my collection. =]
