Ok.. Hi everyone. I have tons of makeup and tons of makeup brushes. I have recently decided to invest in better quality brushes. I Can't seem to make up my mind. I have heard many good things about sigma... and I guess I might be a little cheap compared to others... But are the sigma brushes worth the money? I was looking at the essential kit, which looks great but then I came across the Extravaganza 29 Brushes Complete Kit 18k Gold. The price on that is over 500 dollars. Is that crazy?

No, it's not crazy. I spent this much for this Hakuhodo set: http://www.hakuhodousa.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_9&products_id=242&zenid=5d0f2e2290a34741bf98f839b0b630af

Click to find out how much I paid... Not trying to be bragadocious. Hakuhodo actually delivers quality with that price tag. The Sigma version tries to dupe this with the 24k gold handles, but uses the same quality brush hairs as their basic eye brushes... See GossMakeupartist's video review on how terrible the set is... It's one of his recent videos.

If you want quality, at least do MAC, but if you want to invest in premium brush brands that perform as well as they are soft, check out Hakuhodo or Louise Young brushes. I love all three brands, but LY and Hakuhodo are by far my most luxurious. It's a treat to sit down with them, and I see these lasting longer than my MAC brushes (which have lasted me almost 5 years and still look brand new).

There's his video review on the sigma knock-off if you're interested! Hakuhodo does not give free products for sponsorships, so the reviews online are dead accurate. Same w/ Louise Young.

Thank you so much I will definitely keep looking into this before I buy anything!

No problem! I don't suggest everyone spend this much on brushes at all! But if you have the means to do so and you are particular about your tools, you won't be disappointed! Sigma's synthetic Sigmax line is fantastic though! I couldn't live without my F80... I do love when they come up with something innovative, but their duped stuff leaves more to be desired.

I would say Sigma, in general, is a good jumping-off point, but once you've used them for a bit, you may find yourself wanting to upgrade to another brand. (The Sigmax line is definitely fantastic; like Soma, I love the F80.) In the last year-plus I've owned Sigma brushes, three of them have been upgraded to MAC.

Still have my own eye on Louise Young brushes (have done for a while), but it's just a matter of deciding if I want to do one massive order in the not-too-distant future, or if I want to wait until they're for sale in the US later this year (https://twitter.com/#!/LYCosmetics/status/140012687777214464), given the exchange rates (GBP vs. USD).

Sigma brushes are amazing! They're soft and they pick up product and blend them so well! My fave brushes are the flat top kabuki and round top kabuki for liquid foundation...I bought their whole 12piece with the brush roll and i use every brush just cuz I love them all so much!

Shelly T. - LY is going to finally launch in the US?!? *swoons!*

...I wonder who will carry the line? ...and I wonder if the price point will be cheaper? [wishful thinking]

@Soma: They are! Sometime this year. Wish I had an ETA on that; I'm very excited! :) I seriously hope the price point will be lower, too.

I really like the Sigma bunny collection I picked it up a little while ago and it uses the sigmax fibers and its really really nice.
