So I've been offered 2 jobs at the moment with the same theatre company. I'm so so excited, I really want to be a makeup artist, but sometimes I doubt myself and I'm scared as hell! I've never really done makeup on other people before and I'm scared I'll do a bad job! Does anyone have any tips or advice? Any would be appreciated! Also, is doing makeup on others any different/harder than doing it on yourself?!

First, Find friends you can practice on so you can build your portfolio. I think it is great that you got the job offer. Take it! Don't set yourself up for failure. You have great talent and honey you can do it! You are super talented.

You will come up against so many different face shapes and eye shapes and different skin types that at first you will feel lost we all felt it at the start. The best thing for you to do is take a step back and put yourself in their shoes think what will suit them not what will suit you. It's not harder but different! Know your products and know what skin types they suit. Remember you would not have been offered the job if you did not have talent and if you make a mistake it's ok do not panic just fix it. Practice will always make you better !

Good luck Zoe and congrats on the jobs!

Applying makeup on others is definitely different than doing it on yourself. Here are a few tips to help ease your nerves.

-Try to keep your clients personal space in mind. Don't wear too much perfume, and pop a couple mints before you start.

-Get to know your foundations and what skin type they're used for. Test the foundation colour on the jawline or cheek to see if the colour matches. If it takes too long to blend try another colour.

-watch youtube videos! There are soo many awesome videos that will help inspire you and teach you new techniques.

-Clean your makeup products and brushes with BeautySoClean! It's cruelty free and will help keep your makeup bacteria free. You can purchase their products in some stores but I recommend buying it online because you get more bang for your buck!

-Practice, Practice, Practice...on yourself, your friends anyone who will let you!

Congratulations and best of luck with your new job!!!

Try to do some trial make up on friends and family. so you do get the feeling of how it is to apply make up to other people. And everytime you do a new look, try to get a picture and build out an port folio...
And if you mess up, try again...and good luck with the job.

the best thing you can do is have confidence even when you are scared to death, know that you are good at what you do!!another thing is to quickly analyze your clients face..try to break the bone structure down in your head like a puzzle piece..thats what i do. especially the eyes because that is where most of your work goes..everything else is fairly easy..i take the opportunity to do that when i prep my clents' face..as im applying on toner, and primer i take that time to really get a feel for their face and eyes..so by the time im ready to start application i know what i will be working with..good luck sweety!!!

Congrats on the job sweetie! First things first....CONFIDENCE!! You would not have gotten the job if you didn't have the talent. Second, practice practice PRACTICE!! Practice on anyone you can get your hands on and take before and after photos! Now, for theatrical make-up, it is very different than beauty make-up. You need to get either Ben Nye or a Graftobian make-up kit. The foundations for stage are much thicker and prevent the light from reflecting on the skin and washing out the performers. Use a heavy hand when applying. It is difficult for the audience to see the make-up if it is not applied heavy enough. If you are doing character make-up like aging or someone sick, make sure you do your research. The book "The Complete Make-up artist" by Penny Delamare is a great way to learn techniques for stage. If you need any help, don't hesitate to reach out. Lastly, business cards!!! hand them out anywhere you can. Break a leg!

The Delamare academy is here in the UK! Haha xD thanks for the tips, the only 'special' makeup I'm doing is drag, what would you suggest?
