Stephanie F.
Hello! I am just starting out of YouTube (tutorials, reviews, plus size fashion, etc) and I would love to get some constructive advice. I am also new to Beautylish, but I can tell already from what I have been reading around here that people are really knowledgeable and kind.
Here is my channel, for reference http://www.youtube.com/cookiefarrer . This way, you can view any videos I reference and give your opinions.
Okay, so when I first started I had no idea what I was doing. I just sat in front of my webcam and tried to talk about products. My first two or three videos were responses to some of my fave YT-ers. I would get cut off by my screensaver--not the best material. When I decided to have a real go at it, I read a lot of online articles and watched a lot of videos about how to do it--then I got a JVC HD camera, tripod, some basic lighting, and backdrop.
These are my challenges/questions:
-Lighting: I am working on this one, this weekend I will be moving into another room where I can be near a window, so this should help. Right now, my setup is in my living room because I do not have the space in my room...so this should be better soon. I am just looking for any helpful advice you may have.
My tutorials have been the challenge, I have taken to working outside just to get enough light, but then I deal with things like my neighbors and pets being loud. I have had to explain things a time or two, which I feel makes me come off as unprofessional. My fashion videos have been even more challenging, since the only place to do them has been the bathroom HAHA!
-Editing Software: What do most people use to edit videos? My camera has proprietary software, and it is such a pain. It takes me about 4 hours to edit a 10 minute video, and about 4 more hours to upload it--so any advice here would be wonderful!
- Getting Noticed: What ways do you suggest I use to get my videos where people can see them? I have done some studying on how to title/describe/tag for YT, and I still am not getting it right. An example, is it better to tag only with one-word tags (as in plus, size, fashion etc), or is it better to double/triple word (as in plus size, plus size fashion etc). Does this make a difference in what you guys have found?
-Content: This is the most important part. Be honest, are these videos worth watching? Are they enjoyable? When I watch a video, I am more than willing to overlook lighting or editing issues as long as the person is fun to watch and knows their stuff. It is my goal to come across that way--fun and knowledgeable. I am by no means perfect, but I just want to be the best that I can be. I watch my own videos, and I can see things that I want to change and evolve into--but having others watch and advise is so valuable to me. I really do want to know what you think. So much so that I am willing to open myself up in an effort to hear it. I am not really worried so much about views/subs (what I mean here is that I know that as people that like my videos and find them these will grow naturally--of course I want people who enjoy my channel to watch it), I just really want to have a quality channel. Let me know what you see...
Thank you!

Hi Stephanie! I'm glad you're getting into posting videos and all of these seem like hurdles anyone would need to tackle. Fortunately, I have written mutliple articles on these subjects if you would like to take a look :)

Jasmine,
Thank you so much, I have read a few of these-starting with the audio-and they are a great help!
I have tried getting friends and family to give opinions, but no one is really into beauty stuff like me. That's what's great about this community! I really appreciate your help!
