So My face is finally clearing up and I wanted to get back into using the RIGHT foundation and powders for my skin. I wanted to use neutrogena foundation but they don't care my skin tone (which is normally tan, cadiz but their version is to light) is there any other healthy acne prevention foundation out there?? Please help!!

I havent tried much acne foundation but here are several brands that carry them; Almay, Clinique, Cover FX (they have an acne treat and conceal kit).

I would have suggested Neutrogena too! Sometimes if I can't find my color, I take two colors and blend them - and this is applicable to everything. Even if you have problems finding an acne related foundation and use a regular one, remember the most important step is to properly cleanse your face because sometimes using a good acne related foundation alone isn't going to do it. I am acne prone and lately I've been using tinted moisturizer. Works just as well and isn't as heavy and cloggy as foundation.

Has anyone seen Wayne Goss's recent foundation video on YT? He says that foundations which say they help fight acne actually don't really do much, something to do with the PH cancelling out any work that the salicylic acid might do?

I would say try to find a foundation primer. I know Mally's cosmetics has a really good one. That'll keep your make up from getting into your pores, and making your acne worse.

There is no such thing as an acne-prevention foundation, even though there are many that claim they do just that (hello, marketing BS!). Better to continue with a good skin care routine.

Foundations for Acne are generally not very good for you. Most of them contain salicylic acid as an active ingredient & mixing that with foundation is definitely not a good thing. I barely EVER suggest using Salicylic Acid for people with actual acne problems, all it would do is dry out your skin. Using it in a wash is best, but I don't suggest leaving it on your skin for hours & hours on end.

Also, salicylic Acid is a natural exfoliating ingredient, & applying that to the under eye area, the eyelid or any other thin/delicate skin can cause a lot of damage, inflammation, irritation, etc.

I suggest just looking for a normal foundation that doesn't break out your skin type & a good skin care routine for good skin. Messing with "acne clearing" foundations is risky.

I was in your same predicament. I had horrible acne -- so I changed my facial routine, and make up. I switched to mineral make up, so I could get that coverage, but let my skin breathe.

So when my skin cleared up, I really wanted to go back on a liquid foundation routine. I was afraid of clogging up my pores and what not.

But so far so good. I have been using Revlon Colorstay, and I was afraid of my pores clogging up since it's "color-stay". People said it's full coverage. I do think applying it with a damp sponge lowers it's coverage.

Anyway, I realized the thing to keeping your skin flawless is to remember to wash your face at night. Since my face is clearer than before, I'll put on BP every couple of days. It's enough to keep the "bacteria" and what not at bay. I still try to keep up on my scrub/mask, and I still use my CeraVe.

Great advice Andrea, I found your post really interesting to read. It can be so confusing to know what to use / try sometimes though. I guess it comes down to trial and error sometimes, and everyone's skin is different.

Aw, thanks so much Angie! I unfortunately, learned a lot of that the hard way when I didn't know anything about makeup. So I'm hoping I could help. :D

You're welcome hun :) Very helpful!

I just use non-oil based products. For foundation I have found that MUFE Face and Body works amazing, and has not brought me one breakout, and Neutrogena's Healthy Skin Enhancer works amazing, and is oil free as well. For powders, I would reccomend staying away from MAC as I find they ALWAYS break me out. MUFE HD powder, Physicans formula pressed powders, and Clinque powders have worked well for me. I second what Andrea said. Salicylic Acid and BP are bad news and just worsen your skin for the most part. Also, primer is good after a applying a good quality moisturizer, as it created a barrier between your skin and the makeup, reducing the amount of makeup that gets in your pores.

I love Meow Cosmetics. That was the mineral make up I used when I was trying to clear my acne. It also covered just the right places with the right amount of foundation.

Get out of the drug store. With foundations you often get what you pay for. Clinique has an acne foundation and the price point it not too high I think it $18-21 for a 1 ounce bottle. Having oily skin myself and liking a fuller coverage I also LOVE CARGO oil-free foundation it's about $34 for a 1.36 ounce package. Cheapest of most prestige makeups. Also they are not watered down so a little goes a long way. As a MUA I have to wear makeup every day and I started a new pouch of CARGO in May and I'm not nearly half way done with it yet. Also, with a deeper skintone you should aviod SPF in your foundation which is also why I suggested the two (they are both SPF free). You want to aviod looking ashy and chalky. I hope this helps

Hi!
I am a Licensed Esthetician. Foundations with acne fighting ingredients are not necessarily good for your skin, they can be too harsh and drying on your skin. Change your skin regime instead. 1) Neostrata antibacterial face wash is fantastic for oily skin and acne prone skin. 2) Neostrata oily skin solution controls oil and also contains glycolic acid for smooth, refine, exfoliate complexion. Try and get away from drugstore foundations, they are terrible on skin. Origins, Bobbi Brown have great foundations.

I have very oily/ acne prone skin and I can't go anywhere near liquid foundations, even if it is oil free or whatever. It's kind of pricey but I really like BE mineral makeup. The brushes that come in the kits kind of suck but the powder helps keep my skin from getting too shiny and icky. Plus their foundations come in a wide variety of colors.

Oh my gosh your all amazing! Thank you so much for your responses It's really helped me a lot as to figuring out what to do for my skin type! Thank you so much dolls!! <3

The best thing to do is use natural products. Black soap is wonderful on the skin it helps with oily skin and all sorts of acne. Just make sure you are buying Raw Black soap. Not the imitation Black soap. Here is a site to buy natural products. Do a Google search Forunaturally on Etsy.com Enjoy

African Black Soap!!!! ITs amazing, all natural and will help clam and even clear scars left by your acne. You can purchase a large brick of it on coastalscents.com

you need to be cleansing, & toning everyday with skin like that, I'd suggest Mary Kay velocity cleanser & moisturizer with they're full coverage foundation & loose powder.
