Redness Correction

I've been trying to find a product that fixes redness on my face. I've looked at a bunch of different products from drugstore brands (NYX and L'Oreal) to mid-range ones (MUFE, Smashbox, Pur Minerals). I'm seeing REALLY inconsistent responses! People love it, people hate it, it doesn't work at all, it works perfectly, they don't like the consistency, they love the consistency... I have a headache!

What is your favorite anti-redness product? Please leave your skin color and type for reference.

I use Smashbox's Photo Finish Color Correcting primer, the green one obviously. It works perfectly for me. When I drink alcohol and/or dance, I normally turn red like a tomato. But when I use the primer I don't turn red what so ever! Ziltch, kind of amazed myself.

I also use Neutrogena's Oil-Free Acne Wash (redness soothing cream cleanser). My face used to be really red (and I mean REALLY red) because I had acne. But now my face is a lot less red because of this cleanser and I also don't have acne anymore. My face is still slightly red, but only in areas where I have post acne marks.

Another good one is Make Up For Ever if you're looking to only cover a specific spot.

Try using a color corrector and a good concealer, I think that's what does the trick.

And of course you're going to get inconsistent responses. What works for one person doesn't work for another. It's one of those products you just have to try to see if it works for your or not, unfortunately. I would recommend buying from Sephora since they let you return used/open products (:

I know Lise Watier is a Canadian company, so I don't know if it's sold in the US or not, but if you can get a hold of it you need to try their Portfolio Concealer Wheel. It is absolutely amazing. It has 5 shades in it- 1 of which is a green to minimize redness.. I use it daily and it works amazing... all of the shades are VERY creamy and are a dream to blend out and the coverage is amazing!

skin type: oily/acne prone

so, i have VERY red undertones to my skin. I'm under the care of a dermatologist for acne. the acne meds work very well (2 topicals) and keep my skin clear but don't do much for redness. The primer I LOVE is the Physician's formula Mineral wear correcting primer in green. It will tone down the redness but doesn't make you look like an alien.

Another thing I reccomend: hard candy's glamoflauge concealer - it will conceal anything and for a great price. I find that using a good, yellow toned foundation is all I need to do (no primers needed). so MAC's NW 20 is perfect for me. the yellow tones correct my redness very nicely!

I swear by the make up for ever green primer, I literally do not know what I would do without it.
I have tried the smashbox one as well, and if you are normal or oily you may like it, but for my skin it was much to drying

I think you should ask for samples to find what's really going to work for you. Sometimes going off of the advice of other people just ends up confusing me more about certain products because everyone seems to have such unique experiences. I know that I'm all over the map- even about the same products sometimes. One day I'll love it, the next hate it.

High-end makeup counters will always be happy to give you samples... and although I usually get some attitude from the girls at Sephora when I ask, you CAN ask. CVS Pharmacy (if you have that in your area) also lets you return products that you've tested.

I agree w/ Angela W. about the samples... not everything works for everyone, but I completely understand if you HAVE to have it right in one shot if the store is super far from where you are located. =)

As for myself, MUFE HD Photofinish primer in green. I <3 it. It's like a photoshop tool to remove any underlying redness... I have a lot of it around my nose, and cheeks from old acne scars fading too slow for their own darned good. =/

I prefer the MUFE version over the Smashbox version because it's more of a lotion consistency than the typical silicone-y feel many other brands have to their primers. I noticed my skin reacts to the stuff w/ a LOAD of slip in it, so the MUFE one was perfect since it was non-reactive, and did a great job of locking everything together while canceling out the redness.

Thanks for all the tips! I'm going to see if I can snag a few samples, especially of the MUFE since I have normal-dry skin and Smashbox dries my skin typically.
