I have family in both Japan and Hawaii and I know our own beautylish community manager Christina is there now in Tokyo. Does anyone else have family or friends being affected by this? So scary:(

My husband practices mukushin (martial arts -- swords) there are only a few sensais (sp) left for his discipline and his mentors are there. Isn't Tokyo itself below sea level?
I can't wait to visit Japan in the next year or so -- he spent a lot of time in the country and he said it reminded him of where we live -- West Virginia.

By in the country, I mean Japanese countryside.

Yes, at least a big portion of Tokyo is below sea level. It's like much of Hawaii around the coasts. My younger sister goes to the University of Richmond and I have in-laws west of there about an hour. Your weather is so much more temperate than ours up here in New England! My sister loves it haha. I have family in Tokyo and Osaka mostly. Then there's family in Honolulu, so needless to say this morning was insane. Japan is gorgeous! My husband and I want to bring the kids when they're a bit older. The country is definitely very different from the craziness of Tokyo--different worlds!

With the earthquake in China on Thursday and the multiple earthquakes in Japan I wonder if we're going to get hit with anymore - especially those of us on the west coast of the US. They keep saying that one is due in California and it'll be a big one. No one said that about Japan and yet they have had the biggest earthquake in recorded history.

Well wishing the absolute best to all involved..its a small written gesture on a forum I know but absolutely heartfelt. Just goes to show how much power nature has :(

So far all of my family and friends in Japan are ok--so thankful! My younger sister is supposed to go there soon to study, but we're thinking it may not be a good time to go. Crazy times :(

For me this earthquake has been somewhat personal. My sensei is from Sendai, her family was still in Sendai at the time of the quake and tsunami. No word on her family there.
Also, my hometown has a Japanese Sister-City and it is in northern Japan next to Fukushima Prefecture and Miyagi Prefecture so people I knew from high school, who came through the student exchange program, have been affected. Fukushima is where the nuclear plant has three reactors that have failed and Miyagi is where Sendai is located at. So again, it touches close to home with me because I know people directly affected.
