what are your opinions on using a base coat? essential or optional?

Base Coats save my nails! I can get up to four days of wear with no chips when I use Orly Bonder Base Coat.

Ok cool :) thanks! I have been using a base coat (Nubar's foundation), and I really like it. My nails still stained from a browny-red colour (also Nubar), should I apply two coats of the foundation coat or...?

im a shampoo girl so my nails are CONSTANTLY in water. for a while i have given up all hope for nail color including a bse coat but i discovered gel nails and they are the best!

Hi guys sorry I'm a little late to this but base-coat is a must for nail polish. It'll help your natural nail adhere to the color and prevent staining. Basically is like a primer for make-up or paint. :D hope that helps

Thanks everyone! I always use a base coat, but a friend never does so it made me wonder. Next question - how do you thin out a nail-polish that is way too thick to apply properly?
